flat tops with forced induction?
Just got a technical question. I have a funny combination (not ls1 motor) anyway a good piston i have found that'll sit in a good spot in the block (20thou under deck) is a ross pistons and its probably the single best option available to me. The problem is its a flat top, but even with the flat top and valve reliefs it gives a ratio of around 8.8:1 which is exactly what i was after anyway. Most ppl always run dished pistons (mostly just to lower comp i guess)
Anyway the question is, given its a good compression (which it is) is there any problem with usiing flat top pistons in a blown/turbo combination?
But even at .020 deck + a resonable gasket thickness you should still have decent quench. A little more distance than ideal, but ok none the less.
Also, another benifit is that a dished piston is more "ideal" for combustion then a flat top (and certainly more than a dome!!).
