Default interesting turbo header comparison

these guys did a comparison of a basic log or weld L style header vs 4 equal length tubes into a merge colector. check it out, kind of interesting.

edit... the dyno chart and pic's of the 2 diferent manifolds are not coming up anymore , the link is kind of worthless without those. hopefully they will come back up.

Interesting. I guess that would kinda be expected though. There are no sharp bends and no turbulance with a 4 into 1. Good thing I am building 4 into 1. Efficiency is the most important thing, especially on a pumpgas street car. With that in mind, a log does'nt make a lot of sense. People are saying well "it's only giving up 50-60 hp". If hp does'nt matter.... Why even do it at all then? What the hell is that to say from somebody that spent all the money for turbos to go fast. Why even do it in the first place then if you dont care about giving up "free" hp. Noone wants to "give up" hp. Especially on a max effort upgrade. If any upgrade was to be classified as a Max effort upgrade it would be turbos. That is the most extreme and expensive "bolt on" upgrade you can do. Just my .02. Do it right or don't do it at all!

Good post/info! It might be "only" 50-60hp at those hp levels.. but imagine on a car making 700rwhp+.. I bet it would be a lot more.

Weird...they refer to some nuefamily.org site and this guy that has fabricated a header for his big, slow truck. I didn't know he could fabricate!

yeah, that is how i found it. didn't ya know, i am a master fabricator . i wish i could make something like that.

There is no doubt that an equal length header is better for an all-out project, but to be fair that is the crappiest log design I have ever seen. Maybe because of the cramped engine bay?

How much more? Trying to decide to keep the LT or go back to stock and sell them.

the log design on a honda sucks as they talk about close to the bottom of the page. it has a ninty deg turn and they all point at each other then turn straight down into the turbo.

To be fair though we are also talking about Thunder racing who is known to throw out great #s on just about anything they tune. Angie's car already made more HP with the simple mods on that car than just about anyone else I have ever seen.

It's not that much worse than a lot of the logs I have seen for V8's, and NO worse than the ones where they try and cram both banks of cylinders through the one log. They made a "shitty" log as a comparison because that's how all log manifolds for hondas are built due to size constraints.

i agree, it was built to do the job just like any log. i think it is a prety good test. there seem to be a lot of oponions on how bad or not bad a log really is but this is the only comparions with dyno numbers i have ever seen.
