compression ratio

Default compression ratio

Is it possible to install a thicker head gasket to lower the compression ratio safely so i can do a D1SC with a 50 or 100 shot. Has anyone done this, or without breaking the bank what would you guys reccommend.

Running a thicker head gasket is not a good way to lower the compression ratio.

Pretty much defeats the purpose of a quench type combustion chamber.

The 'right' way to do it would be to rebuild the engine with forged/dished pistons.

Could get new heads with bigger combustion chambers like the AFR 225cc intake heads with the 72 cc combustion chambers. They can mill them down to any size down to 65cc's. Have you thought about a compression ratio that you want to get to?

im not too sure, was thinkin of 9:1 (ls1 is 10:1 right?). If I S/C I want it to last even with the shot of nitros. I dont drive her often but when i do its hard.

The ls1 is 10.3:1...... The best way for the $$$ Is a set of 6.0L heads. The come with 71cc chambers and lower a stock LS1 to about 9.7:1 to 9.8:1...... with a set of -8.66cc dish pistons you can get to 9:1.... Do a search alot of people do it....

the LS1 is 10.1 :1.
bro if your considering lowering the CR, then you really ought to put some forged pistons on there.
if you lower CR, you are gonna try more and more boost or spray til she goes boom. im sure you know how boost is addicting. But then again, some guys do fine w/ like 12psi and a good tune.( tune means it all)
But getting a 9: 1 CR on the stock flat top pistons, you could go with the AFR 76cc heads & a cometic gasket (.054")

was that 9.1 with both the pistons and heads or just one of them?

well its actually more like 9.3 :1 since there is no valve pockets in the stock pistons. (i didnt take that into account)
this is with the stock pistons, 76cc AFR's and a .054" gasket.
