Default Question for the STS peoples.

Does anyone know the kind of hood that Rick (Rick Squires) has on his black Trans Am, I thought it was the Mecham POS but upon further inspection of photos I have found I don't think it is. I've seen this hood before, It's nose is like a Firehawk hood, but the 3 rows of extractors it has on it are rounded looks real wicked BTW. Also does anyone offer the OBX FMIC yet? I've been looking, but have come up with nothing. Also ( getting redundant yet?) is the base kit limit to an aboslute top PIS of ~5? If I fab in a FMIC will it drop my peak PSI? Is the cooling efficientcy of the intercooler enough to counteract this drop and add even more power than previous? Thank you all for any input you give, sadly no on likes to reply to my posts.................i feel so lonely..................so terribly terribly lonely.........LOL

Don't know on the hood, but I'm sure Rick does He won't bite.

Everyone I know bought their OBX's off of ebay. You will lose a bit of boost, but you can either get a bigger WG spring, or just deal with the gauge being 1-2psi lower -- it will still be better.

The base kit has a .4 bar WG spring. If you get the boost controller, you can turn it up, or you can buy another (bigger) WG spring.

Will the turbo and stock piping be able to handle the increase in pressure on the exhaust side of the turbo with the stiffer spring? Does STS sell the springs? And that raises another question I've never dismantled a BOV is it difficult? Also the boost controller will allow me to turn the boost back up to 5 PSI? Sorry I haven't jacked with a forced induction system for a couple of years, it appears I've forgotten everything. Is the OBX a difficult fab? I've never pulled the front end off my TA.

On one of my customers cars with the STS and FMIC, I just changed the boost reference to the intake instead of the turbo. This way, you will still run 5psi w/o changing the wastegate spring. Changing the wastegate spring takes about 5 minuntes. My wife could do it.
I just pulled the nose off my Formula yesterday to put the OBX on. Its very easy. I will have the pipe done today or tomorrow. You can send me a pm of you want details, but its just like several other people on the board have done.
You can run much more than your stock engine can take with the sts just like any other forced induction. There are people on this board running 14psi with the STS.

As trturbo said.We ran a 1/4 brake line from the engine compartment to the wastegate. It hold boost alot better now. With a 4lb spring and a manual controller we hit 14lbs of boost on the street.

You need to relocate the vac line from the turbo to the intake. That way the WG see the presure after the ic instead of before. Believe me there's a big difference. Never mine i see someone already post it.

The boy covered the boost problem after installing a FMIC so I am gonna take a guess that the hood you are talkaing about is either the Raptor hood by Suncoast Creations or the SLP Ram-Air hood. Both do away with the double stacked nostril thing in favor of one solid opening. IMO the Raptor hood the the the best looking aside of a true Firehawk hood.

Wow thanks for the info everybody. Gives me a lot to think about until I get home in February from Iraq. Hey trtturbo you're the dealer I'm looking at using when the time is right. Is there a chance I can stop by on R&R say around February 15 and check out the system? The people at STS say you're a great shop to deal with, which makes me all the more anxious to blow a little air on the fire. Man I can't wait to get home an drive on the highway and be stuck in normal traffic jams, not ones that involve dozens of Mercedes dump trucks from the '50s, convoys of Hummers, and the occasional Abrams or Paladyn tank. LOL, I never get tired of all the weird crap in this place.

You can stop by anytime. Just give me a call ahead of time so I know you are coming.
I am putting the OBX on right now only to take it off for a customer. I'll have another on pretty soon. Feel free to email or call or pm anytime.

No he had a fab shop near him do some work on the car, inside the driver's side vent there is a duct that runs down to the filterin the fender well, as far as I know the passanger side is non functional.

Aren't the horns on the trucks cool, though? Anyway, if you're worried about pressure drop from an FMIC, alcohol injection is an option. You get charge cooling and supplemental fueling at the expense of another fuel tank and pump. The Gt-67 or 70 works if you need more boost. Enjoy the R&R.

LOL I was just on ebay looking. On a side note I really like the look of the "Ben Her" (I know I spelled that wrong) hub caps the Iraqis put on their wheels and the oh-so entertaining air horn musicals they put on. I thought La Coocaracha was bad enough.
