Sorry to hear that Zangel. It looks awefully familiar to my te-44 that I almost let go to someone I sold it to in CA. I figured my car ran good, so I would ship it out. Then, I had that gut feeling I should take the housings off just to be sure. Well, low and behold, the damn compressor wheel had a few nicks out of it, same with the turbine wheel. Not enough to matter, but it did matter to me. I sent him my BRAND NEW te-45 (63mm wheel) instead. He got one hell-u-va upgrage in a turbo!

Needless to say, the guy loves the turbo. I told/warned him to keep the boost turned down. He just e-mailed me today, told me he was EXTREMELY HAPPY, and told me it wiped out his transmission. He was actually laughing about it in his e-mail. Well, at least I know the turbo works GREAT and is making power.

Chance are he had no idea it was bad..fact is he should make good on the return since he admitted the spark plug mishap. Your being gracious, but this is on Rickys head, though he'd have to be a man about it and step up to the plate. Not everyone is stand up as you well know. Good luck.

Zangel, sorry about your mishap. Will the guy not offer your money back?

Do you know the guy personally? Strongarm him in the groin.

I couldn't rip people off like that to an enthusiast, let alone a woman looking to make her car fast.

Let me do some checking. I may be able to get that fixed for a decent price. Sending it to Garrett or Turbonetics would cost a fortune.

Unfortunately the guy is unwilling to work with me. He definately won't give me my money back nor will he help pay for the repairs. I don't know the guy that sold it to me personally... and I don't think I would ever do that to any man unless I REALLY had to

Thanks for the offer. I went ahead and sent the turbo off to Majestic. George with TTI also contacted me and offered to help me out. George is a really great guy. Wish I would have known about him sooner. I probably would have went in a completely different direction with this entire set up Anyways, if things don't work out with Majestic, I will definately be going through George! I'll let you all know how it turns out and thanks for all the support.

Just keep your fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong!

just before i sold my turbo kit i desided to have my turbo looked at just to make sure everything was good, sent it to a local shop here that does turbo rebuilds.
i assumed it was working perfectly, but i found out it needed new internals as i had starved it from oil with a restrictor.
so i had it completly rebuilt before i sold my kit, i wouldnt have know it was bad it seemed to work fine just before i took it off.. glad i had it checked out so i didnt sell the guy a bad turbo.

my rebuild only cost $350 though.

The guy you bought the turbo from should be man enough to make it right. He can then seek recourse from the guy he bought the turbo from. I bought a PCM from Stu on this board and had it for 2-3 months before I installed it, turned out it was bad and he sent me my money back, no questions asked.

Also if the orginal owner is the Dean in San Antonio that has a 800hp+ turbo mustang and ownership in a certain performance shop, that I know, then he should really work to get it straight, or there could be other business reprecussions for him.

Good luck either way, push on the guy you bought it from. If he said it was good, it should be.

Later,
Dave

Yes, that is the Dean that I am talking about. I paid for the turbo in cash. Stupid huh? I did get a receipt though... my sister is a lawyer and she drills that into my head. I really don't think there is much I could have done anyways. I am trying not to get mad and just concentrate on getting my car done before the Power Tour.

Dean has a shop?

I'd like them to at least send you an additional part you could use, to offset the extra cost you are incurring.

Yeah, that is why I figured he could be trusted. I thought Dean just works there. He might be part owner but the shop is named after someone else. The shop owner is probably one of the most famous turbo Mustang guys. His car runs 7's every time and has picked up the top place in Outlaw for MANY years. They definately know what they are doing! I'd rather not believe that the shop had anything to do with it. If Dean is the owner of that shop, that kinda changes things though...

Get in contact with Jason @ Autologic in Houston. He'll get that turbo taken care of for less than you might think. If it comes down to buying a new one, he's a dealer for Innovative and Precision.

it's very unfortunate, but it is buyer beware when buying used stuff. especially race stuff, since even most new racing parts have no warranty. And the fact that you met up with him and physically saw the piece before agreeing to make the purchase makes you ultimately responsible.

Although i do feel he should take the turbo back on good faith.

yeah, I guess I know now. I'm just a trusting person. I guess I never realized that I should take the thing apart right there in the parking lot because some guy wanted to get rid of his bad parts. BTW -- I found out today that there is NO way that they wouldn't have known. The turbo was SEVERELY over heated which probably led to the problems with the spark plugs. In other words, if the guy knew anything about turbos, he knew that it would be messed up. Considering the guy works for Mike Murillo... now I'm pretty pissed!

i'm in no way defending anyone here but i had a pushrod(don't ask how) dropped into the Y pipe that ended up getting to the exhaust wheel. It made a clinking noise for weeks until it finally ate through enough of the wheel to lodge itself in and lock up the turbo. only then did i realize the rattleing noise was turbo related. up until then it spooled up fine, ran the number at the track and never gave an inclination there was trouble. When i removed the turbo i found the push rod. it was ate up pretty bad and the wheel looked similar, though not as bad, to yours. I reinstalled the turbo and ran it for another year like that with no trouble at all. In fact when i sold the kit i informed the new owner the wheel was chewed up but he installed the kit and ran it for another year till he sold it. So i could kind of see how he might not have knowingly sold you a screwed up turbo.

I would say the damage was way more than a spark plug in my opinion. Good luck with it.
