For a street car and modest boost- 10 or so I would prefer the aluminum, but I am going the cheap way. I bought a bare iron 5.3 block; same as an LS1 block except smaller bore. (paid $45.00 off ebay). Use stock crank, good rods and pistons and ARP bolts. Bore to LS1 specs; 3.898 or .905 I think. This should work and save me a little money and be plenty strong.

90% of the people are not going to damage the aluminum block.
I here the same, 1000hp on the aluminum block, I also here the ls1 block is stronger then the ls6, even though the ls6 has better alum. The improved cast in 'windage' vent holes are larger and weaker then the drilled holes in the ls1.
I believe the cartek 1200hp TT vetts are both aluminum.

i would think theyd flex likea **** from the heat/boost pressures, etc. itd be very odd if the ls1's were stronger, more like not make sense at all. well that and im an oldschool kid, i like the iron. heres a question, what are the boost pressures on the 1000hp aluminum ls1's?
