A GT55 is a 91mm unit. Large frame of course, and should make good power, but WAY overkill for your setup and LOTS of un-necessary lag. But, whatever floats your boat. A 76GTS or PT88 would have done the same job and spool up 1500-2000 rpms sooner....lol...must be a newbie ...lol

it may lag a little, but it will be able to make the power i want SAFELY on pumpgas without worry. id rather over do it then be too conservative.

plus, i dont need any more traction problems at lower rpm then necessary, so its not necessarily bad to have it full boost in the mid 3k's

Full boost in mid 3K's??...I hope your kidding..lol. You won't hit peak torque (full boost ) with that unit till 5200-5500rpms. Like I said, lag city with that unit. A PT88 would do the same thing on pump gas and spool a good bit sooner.

i understand its a very large turbo, but i would think it would spool a little quicker then that with a 408 stroker.

even with the 408 a turbo like that will take over 5 grand to spool, have you seen the turbo in person, thats a big fricken turbo! it probably weighs around 40lbs

depending on how allen sets you up you should be able to run low nines, eith eights with that turbo, ofcoarse all dependant of the rest of your set up.

Even with a 408, peak boost (peak torque) won't occur till after 5000 rpms...lol.

When are you going to get the car back from Futral? Any estimates? Oh, is the GT55 a ball bearing turbo?

73lbs actually.

Guys..give him a break till its finished, then yall can make hits. Yes,he dosen't know a whole lot,so cut him some slack if he can't answer all your questions. There are lots of reasons why its getting the parts he has other then "total power output". Just support him in wanting to go FI...

thanks allan.

i now know what your talkin about when everyone jumps the gun without seein the pudding. unless i get more positive feedback from these guys, they arent gonna get any more info out of me, cause that is very disrespectful not only to me, but especially to you, and i do not think that is right especially from the amount of effort you have put into this custom setup and bullshit that you have put up with from these guys.

its obvious people only see one thing, maximum power. but like we have discussed its about optimizing that power and using it efficiently in specific areas.

on a side note, can someone please ban the troll again for me, he is really getting annoying(zettler).

like i said, i dont know the specs of the turbo whether its ball bearing or not, but i can only assume it is for the money that has been spent on it. plus i dont think garrett would put a huge turbo out there that did not have ball bearings, but i dont know too much about their products.

its about time you got on here and shed some light on this subject?
so how much power are you going to give him?
with a 73lb turbo id think you could give him eights, or is that the surprize your giving him?

can you tell us and him, all the details of his set up.
and how are you routing the downpipe?

The GT55 is not ball bearing. Its just a standard journal bearing turbo. Also if you guys really sat down and ran the #'s using consumption charts and compressor maps with appropriate PR's, then the 88 is best suited...hehe.

This may be my first post on this forum, but not a newb at all...I have been browsing this forum lately and people on here are not out to patronize or belittle anyone, they are just tring to state facts and shed a little light on your(tranz am) project....

Maybe you ain't aware, but a basic gt47(88mm) can blast 140mph(1/8 mile) at around 3000lb car....should be in excess of 1300hp.....probably could push 170+ 1/4 mile.

Hope your pump gas ride makes you happy!

thank you. i will definately be happy with it. as far as the power its capable of, i know its capable of more, with the right computer mods and bigger injectors. but as of right now i dont wanna upgrade the computer. so it will last me a while before i outgrow it.
