Default Big Block Turbo

I had planned on getting a 1973 vette and putting a big block turbo in it. Don't know for sure but I was told the engine bay is too small. Anyone know what pre-1975 vehicle would have a large enough engine bay? Don't want it too heavy. Thought the vette would be good because it's got larger percentage of the weight on the rear for good traction.

Why not build a 427 SBC and drop it in then turbo it?

Exactly, unless your dead set on huge cubic inches, SBC is the way to go.

I really want to know if anyone knows a car this setup would fit in.

There's a guy back home running a 67 Camaro with TT-BBC. I have never really gotten much of a look at it, but he broke the track record for his class with a 7.83 1/4 mile.

Try a 2nd gen f-body.

Or a pre-73 chevy truck. They are light, you can add a fiberglass bed and tilt frontend to make it even lighter, they are emissions exempt, they have acres under the hood, and most later chevy truck parts easily swap in.

Not to mention they are really bad *** looking.

I think a low compression 454+ cube big block with twin turbos backed by a TH-400 would put 800 to the ground without breaking a sweat. I say twins because two small turbos are much cheaper than one turbo capable of pushing 1000+, and they will spool faster.

Putting boost to a carb motor is getting easier (cheaper) all the time.

You don't want to use a C3, they have no room under the hood, a regular big block doesn't even fit, you have to use a special manifold. Their rears are also crap for big power.

cubic inches dont matter with enough boost. go SBC - esp a fresh one.

well, if cubes dont matter why doesnt he just use a 1.3 liter 4-cyl?
more cubes = better unspooled power, quicker spool, less heat in the intake tract(boost), doesnt need as much octane/cooling, more streetability, better tq curve/powerband, and its easier on the motor itself.
so yeah...cubes do matter, but theres a point of diminishing returns unless youre shooting for HUGE power numbers. how big of a motor are you looking to use? well built LS1's can make around 600rwhp on pump gas. so if thats enough for you then i'd say go sbc. if you want more and still use pump gas then the bbc may be for you.
as for the original topic... try an f-bod. they have room under the hood and look good too.

Why not consider buying a proven pre 75 race car that already has a BBC in it... that way you have less to do... just make it more streetable and build the motor for TT.

Big cube turbo power is the ultimate for monster power without monster boost.

Here is a beast http://stingraycrazy.nstemp.com/photo1.html

Exactly. What I want is to get major power and have it as a daily driver on pump gas. When I say major power, that means my car now running 118 mph feels slow. I think some of the early 70's Chrysler's had large engine bays or I may end up putting it into an early 70's chevy 1/2 ton like "z98" suggested.
