Default Best Engine Setup for Turbo...

My debate is this:
I'm definitely getting a new bottom end (burning oil, etc...), probably Lingenfelter's forged 346 shortblock. For lots of power (and fun), should I go with:

AFR heads, and a max-effort cam, which will probably mean keeping an eye on the springs, and less then mannerly behavior for daily driving, but mean *** idle.

OR

Keep stock heads, switch to a turbo cam, bigger injectors, and go with an STS setup, which means a less conventional method, but better street manners, only slighly more $$$ and room to grow...

Is keeping stock heads a dumb idea? I hate to put stock heads back on a new bottom end, but if I am getting heads, I really want to go with AFR or something similiar for quality reasons. And new heads and a turbo are beyond my budget right now.

Any insight?

Thanks!

Tommy

If your looking at $$$ and whether or not you can afford something you better stay NA for now. Turbos/SC's take you to a whole new realm for spending $$$. There are a lot of hidden costs in going FI. I thought I could do my Procharger and some other misc stuff for $8K and after reworking stock heads, port matched aluminum intake, new fuel system (rails, pump, injectors, hoses, etc) to support the boost and tuning I was in the $10K range.

NA is safer as well, which is always easier on the ole' pocketbook!

If money becomes no object take the FI drug and lookout because you will be addicted to a good/bad habit!

Yaa i dont thinkyou are looking at the big pic here.
Lets just say you get the short block that 3k
then you get the system 4k
fuel system 600-1k

Then you are going to need some drive train parts. Clutch/ maby a tranny if you 3/4 sift fork takes a dump. Drive shaft, and a rear end. That could be another 4k. It aint cheap to go fast. Grand total $12,000

low compression = high boost but to much boost = so try and find a happy medium

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning toward NA, but the initial (but not total price) of the turbo setup really got me thinking. But all the other costs def seem to add up fast. Thanks again!
