Default spining a alternator in reverse?

So I do not like the factory alternator mounting position, i have solid motor mounts so my crank pully will not vary at all. I would like to mount my alternator to the passangers side frame of the car with its pully facing the back of the car. The problem with this is it spins the alternator the opisite direction.

Are there alternators out there that are made to spin like this?

You should be able to spin the factory one backwards. I know it can be done on the 04 Cobras, so you should be able to do it on an F-body.

It will still make electrical current. Good call on the cooling vains. Maybe you could take it apart and flip it around.

why not get a smooth pulley and run idlers around it to spin it in the correct direction using the back of the belt?

A bit off topic, but what the hell was the factory thinking making the alternator spin in the direction it does? Last week I was driving through Austin, and the nut that holds the pulley on the alternator spun off. It was not the factory alternator, because I upgraded to a 130 amp unit when I put FAL E-fans on the truck, but I was still shocked to have the nut spin off. It seems like they would spin in the opposite direction in order to keep the right hand thread nut tight.

Take it to an alternator shop.

They can make it right pretty cheap, with no fabrication on your part.
