Just added an intercooler to my STS setup :)
Note the entire bumper still in place
I'll be covering it with a grill in the future
No jokes about the mud on the tires, my friend has a dirt driveway.
I always knew it could be done this way but "assumed" it would make the IC very inefficient due to poor air flow.
Hopefully you prove me wrong. I know I had a real hard time biting the bullet to cut my bumper. Could save others the same heartache.
although the way I have mine mounted and the thickness of the bars and such I think my bumper is everybit as strong if not stronger now
).Last night when doing a 3 gear pull (top of 3rd through part of 5th) with the outside temp being right around 50 the highest intake temp I saw was 82 degrees with 8 psi from the t67 after making 2 pulls. My previous temps on 5 psi with the same conditions would be 150 degrees.
I too worried about the flow because of the bumper. My friend who is a GN guy assured me that the gap was plenty and he was correct. With the way we have it mounted, there is a 1/2" of space between it and the bumper. Airflow does not appear to be a problem at all.
During the day when it's 60 or so my IAT's rarely ever get over 80 with daily driving and a little boosting. I'm sure removing the bumper would add some airflow, but I doubt it would drop it much more than what i'm seeing now.
Hope that helps some of you guys out.

I am low volume, I am not fast. I do all sorts of fabrication for all things turbo, not just f bodies.
