Default Just added an intercooler to my STS setup :)

I have a 2000 Camaro SS with a T67 on it. It's now intercooled and what a difference it made. It previously made 5psi and my intake air temps were 140-150 degrees with the ambient temps being in the 50's. My intake air temps are now in the 70's on 8 psi!!

I have several pics, but I'm waiting on a friend to send them to me. This car is a monster now. I have traction issue's in 3rd gear on nittos and my 42lb injectors are at 102% duty cycle (damn 4.10 gears, i need a stock 3.42 setup).

One of my friends will most likely be producing a kit for these cars in the near future, my car was the prototype. We managed to get the whole setup on without cutting the bumper at all.

This of course is using the infamous OBX intercooler (cheap and works damn good). I'm hoping to dyno in the near future. I want to get an alky kit though and make some pulls on 11psi

intercooler install is very easy. It's the piping that makes it difficult and time consuming. We used my car as the prototype by welding several bends together. They will end up being replaced with a one piece mandrel bent setup since my friend has a mandrel bender.

we took many pics of each stage, but my friend hasn't sent them to me yet. The mounting of the IC without cutting the bumper was so easy it's stupid. The i/c is sitting about 1/4-1/2 (depending on where measured) off of the bumper and is mounted using the two screw holes. It's so securely mounted I can stand on the mounts, this thing isn't going anywhere. I don't know how the trans am would fit, but I would guess that i's pretty much identical to the camaro. We had PLENTY of room. GM left so much room there, it's a crime to not use it for an front mount intercooler.

My website is down right now, but i'll post some pics as soon as I get them so you guys can see how it's setup. I don't know why people are cutting their bumpers.

As for the before after 5 psi dyno, i can do that when I get the chance. I have to retune the car back down to 5 psi and go dyno. My non intercooled 5 psi dyno was 432 rwhp with intake temps at 150 at the end of the pull

When I go back to stock gears my a/f should remain the same. I'm tuning for 11.2:1 in 4th gear. My car is setup as a street car, nothing else. I will go to the drag strip to run it though. The previous owner managed a 12.4 at 117 on 5 psi with no intercooler, 2.0 60', 90+ temps, a slipping clutch, missing 3rd gear.

I'm hoping for a 120+ mph trap, the first track day i will be attending is feb 25, what a long wait

I have done some data logging with HP tuners. A 4th gear roll on (no brake boosting) from 70-120 mph took 6 seconds

WEll I am verry intrested in Knowing that SO if ya get a chance Plese check and let us know.

I know it helps, I know that Meth also cools the charge and adds octain. I just dont know what the best way to go is? SHould ya DO a FMIC and spray less meth or NO fmic and MORE meth on High boost. I have a electronic boost controller and the LOW boost is for daily driving so I dont care what HP I get out of it. The HIGH boost if for racing and thats where I want to see the real power! I may have to post a simmilar question and see if anyone can help me figure this out?

Thanks, Lata, Ark

Glad to hear you're having great results!

That's one mean lil FMIC for the money

Ark,

Do the FMIC. It's totally worth the money and even though I have both, if I had to choose 1 I would do the FMIC. Both though is pretty damn cool

Zombie, you did relocate your vacume line form the turbo to the manifold after the FMIC install right? If so what were your results?

He is talking about your boost reference line to the wastegate. When you put the IC on, if you dont move the boost reference, you will run less boost because of the restriction of the IC. Moving the line to get reference from the manifold will keep you running the psi your wastegate is set at.

WOW - SO you would need to Run another Line from the back of the car all the way to the front then wouldent you? OR could you just put a larger spring in the WG to offset the loss you might see? It would run less boost than the spring is rated at BUT would hat Hurt anything?

Most just run a small line to the front of the car. The advantage of that is your boost seems to be much more stable that way. When I left everything stock like STS has it I would vary from 11.5-13.5psi all wild. Once I moved the line it was much more stabe and didn't vary much at all except in different gears sometimes.
