Default Clutches for 700++hp

I know this is not the right forum but I want to know what the Fi guys are doing.

I think my spec 3 clutch is about done. I was wondering what clutches yall are running for your high hp street cars (700++).

Is the McLeod street twin disc the only way to go?
Is there anyone running the Spec 4 with the new F opition on the street? How is the drivablity, did it hold up?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I'm now a 700+ Hp guy, but I know a few people that have had good luck with the spec 4I and the spec 5's.. I assume that hte spec 4"f" will be at least as good as the "i" was.

i ran my spec stage 4 ceramic all last season and it never slipped. i took it out when i put in the wheel to wheel motor and did a spec stage 4 iron (may be what they call the f now i dunno) and it also works very nice and has yet to slip on me. it also has good street manners which i enjoy very much

Cool, Thanks guys!

That's what I wanted to know. I just can't drop $1200 on a clutch right now, so I will be going with the 4F (formally known as "I")

Later,
Dave

I just dont trust spec anymore. They have not stood behind a single one of the stage 3's that have gone bad with even the simplest of driving conditions. I know the exedy's are pricy, but you get what you pay for. I actually just put a new 3F in my Turbo car, so I will see how far it goes, but I am scared to see the end results. You should see one of our cars that the Stg 3 exploded and he lost the back of the motor, the headers, the bellhousing, the input shaft, and half of the clutch is still stuck to the floor boards. Anyone want pics?

Rick

I called and talked to SPEC yesterday and i was told there is no point in going with a stage 4F...... over a stage 5..... (for my power level shooting for 800rwhp) they both handle the same power and the stage 5 is $50 cheaper then the stage 4F...... we will see how it does in my car and how many street miles i get becaus ei plan on daily driving it.....
PurEvl how many miles to you have on your stage 5 now????
I would like to know what others have been told when going with SPEC clutched for 700rwhp+ combo's

I just talked to Spec and they said that the stage 3F will hold as much as the stage 4F. The only differnece would be that the 4F has an unsprung hub (what ever that means) and it would be a lot more aggresive than the 3F. He also said that the stage 5 would have nasty chatter on the street.

He also said the 3F would hold 900 ft/lbs at the flywheel. If this is true, why would anybody get the 4F for a daily driver?

i'm not as smart as spec engineers about clutches.. but my disks are unspring (no prings in the center, solid hub) and i dont have problems with stop and go traffic. and no springs means less moving parts, less to break.. i can only reccomend a solid, unsprung hub.

Dave,

Thats what they told me too....... thathe unsprung hub was stronger and less moving parts to worry about breaking like MM said. I just talked to Tiago on AIM for a bit and he likes his stage 5 so hats what im going to go with..... if it lasts 15-20K ill be happy..... he has 10K on his so far.

MM how many miles id you have on your old stage 4 and how many tracj passes when u pulled it???? How did it look?

Thats awsome.... 15K in my mind at these power levels is awsome..... was that just a stage 4 or a 4I??? Its killing me to know how the stage 5 is compared to the new 4F. Why didnt you go with the stage 5?? Anyone know how the PP is different on the 5 compared to the 4F? Is the 4F like a breakpad texture like the 5 was discribed to me??

I have this exact same clutch 3f with the lightweight pressure plate option for sale in the classified section for $500 shipped, the flywheel was sold. We have one locally in a 700rwhp turbo car and it hasnt had any problems on the street so far, but no track apperances yet. Thanks anthonyp50@aol.com

Running a 2/3 SPEC Kevlar/Ceramic Hybrid right now at 650rwhp without problem. If I upgrade it would be to a 3F. Expect to be at 700rwhp soon.

I don't launch about 2k RPM or slip the clutch much tho.

I like the 3F alot more than the 5.In Pure Evils car you can stall it real easy and the clutch squeels like a pig.I think it has a whole 1/2" of peddle travel to slip it But it has held up pretty good

So nobody is using anything other than the Specs? No RAM, Hays, Cartek, McLeod, etc.?

I ran a Spec Stage 5 when we were shooting for 800hp and it was very streetable but it did squeak a lot. Nothing too bad though... I only had it on there for a couple of weeks but if I still had an M6, I would do it again...
