Question Forged Shortblocks

What company makes good, affordable forged shortblocks for high boost applications? I am thinking I want to turbo my Z06, but I'd like to remove the stock shortblock and store it for the future. I definetly want to stay with an aluminum block and close to stock cubes (no 383's, 408's, etc).

Second question, what kind of turbo setup could I use to get 700fwhp, using the stock cubes and cam (gas mileage is a HUGE priority, I do alot of long distance driving).

I have been checking out rapid motorsports blocks. They seem very well made and use good parts for high boost applications.

Try APE, their shortblocks are very affordable and I have had no problems with mine. The customer service is top notch but call soon because they get busy fast in the spring. They are a sponsor and Im sure that Chris would be more than happy to talk to you about your project.

Speed Inc. can build you a stock cubic inch motor.

I am running a 2001 LS6 block, 8:1 compression target, with custom Diamond pistons. I am running 6.125 Eagle rods, and a stock crank.

The important thing is to spec out the total combo and then try to avoid making any major changes during the buildup of the car which can delay when it will be finished.

If you want 700fwhp, you can easily get there with stock cubes, M6, and on 93 pump gas. I would be thinking about compression in the 8.5:1 range.

I don't see the point in keeping your old motor and buying a new one. Just add forged pistons and rods to your current block.

also, go check out futral motorsports. hes building up my 408 turbo motor, so im sure he can do a stock cubed one too.

Although I haven't been able to completely tune my combo yet, APE has my vote. Best customer service of any internet dealings I've had yet!

A good example . . . fired up my car for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of problems. Within 20 minutes of my post Chris called ME asking if he could help in any way, and it wasn't even a problem with the engine!

Futral Motorsports is doing mine.. they offer a very competitive price, and Allan has tons of motors out there that have been running for years and are proven. Mine will consist of eagle rods, diamond pistons, and a stock crank also, with some coated stuff more than likely. Hoping my combo will last at least a couple hundred passes and limited street driving turned all the way up at 700-800rwhp.

I think any of the above listed should be fine though, so long as you keep your tune in check. I just try to stay with the most commonly ran engine in cars on the board to try to steer away from any unknowns.

Well, it might be weird and ****, but i'd like to keep the stock motor so if i ever were to blow **** up (with my luck, it will happen eventually), or had to sell it, I would have the stock motor to swap back in. Just as a security blanket.

I'll be sending a few calls out to the sponsors in the next couple of weeks.

Speaking of shortblocks... I have all the pieces ready for assembly and I need someone to put it together correctly.

LS1 block (needs to be bored for Pistons)
3.905 bore Diamond Pistons dished for 20cc
Eagle h-beam rods
Clevite bearings (Main, rod, and Cam)
Stock crank
I have all ARP fastners (main studs and L19 rod bolts)
