Default How do you keep the intercooler cool on a T/A?

i saw a site of a guy that builds replacement front bumpers with two huge holes in the front.

this is one possibility. but will it still work fine with the stock front fascia? and what kind of things work well to keep it cool, in regards to normal daily driving with out using meth or alky.

if it is a good intercooler and is air to air. Then you are fine on the street as the air will cool it. However, if you get that front end I would hope you grill that huge hole, so road trash and small animals don't get stuck in there!

Most people with Firebirds/Trans Ams will cut the front plate area out. We just did my sons LT1 car and it is even more difficult to cut out. We took the driving lights out, but we really need more flow.

So how would a guy Google to find the above bumper on his own?

Do any sponsors sell anything similar fitting '98 TA?

Thanks,

Rich

As nice as it is, this is a mistake. The reason is that the Fbody is not a Corvette, and the amount of air that will build up is going to be alot anyway, and with that opening is going to be much much worse at high speeds. If you open the front license plate section, that is more than enough. The numbers in my sig should verify that. I will be going to 900, 1000 and 1100RWHP, and I will still keep the same opening. Going down the road I have seen as much as a 25 degree drop in temp from ambient. The Air Temp Gauge does not lie.

You can see a picture at www.perigee.net/~lunapark

I love your car, but it can't break the laws of physics....you may approach ambient , but not go under it unless you use a cooling adder like ice, N20,etc.

Im one of them who have cut the front bumber to allow more cool air to hit my FMIC...... I cut it just right so i can put my front plate cover back on when i drive the car long distances..... ie no bugs hit it.....

What if you were to take out the fog lamps and then use NACA ducting and fasion something to shroud around that area of the FMIC? Also perhaps fab up an air scoop to help channel air from below the bumper up into there if you don't wanna cut out your liscense plate area. Though I really like nasty's idea.

This black TA is in the readers rides section of the April Turbo & High-Tech Performance magazine. There is a spoiler that goes along with it.

speak more about this griffin piece...specs? price? I'm starting to build a parts list in the back of my mind if I decided to go through with the current deal I might get myself into.

And I still don't see why you can't find a way to shroud the IC via ducting and sheetmetal from the foglamps or from under the bumper too...you just have to get enough draw through that thing @ speed because it's not like you're going to be romping on it in stop and go traffic constantly, well, ok, maybe some people will.

Do a search..... Speed Inc does a GP or a sale on them all the time..... The Camaro and TA are different.

Cool, thanks Kyle. The more and more I think about this, I just can't see spending the dough on a new goat when my buddy is most likely going to sell his VERY clean 00 TA. 1/2 the price leaves 2 the money for speed parts
