Turbo with no muffler, how loud
Do you think it would be possible to drive a turbo car with no muffler. I know Neons don't have mufflers because law does not require you to if you have a turbo but we are not talking about a 2litre motor, we are talking about a 408 with a t88 to t94 turbo with a 5" down pipe. What do you think?

I'm rethinking this as I was thinking about a system which had a 5" down pipe which exited the front fender but I think the exhaust fumes would be obnoxious int he interior when I roll the windows down.

Just run stock or a cheap catback and put an electric cutout after the down pipe. That way it's quiet when you need it to be and will make max power when you open it up. That'll give you the best of both worlds.
Also, with the cut-out located at the dp, my car was loud enough to shake the hell out of anything in the cup holder and ashtray.

To me it sounded a bit loud at first, but then again I have no tailpipe yet and it is on a short bed truck. I am planning on running a tailpipe and making a stainless shroud with some sound deadening material on top of it to reflect the noise to the ground. the turbo whistles quite a bit but is not really loud.

I was just going from the speed inc pics. They use a 5" down necked down into a 4" pipe that goes to the back of the car. So you think a 4" will suffice then I take it. I don't see me making more then 1300hp.
