Default Turbo with no muffler, how loud

Do you think it would be possible to drive a turbo car with no muffler. I know Neons don't have mufflers because law does not require you to if you have a turbo but we are not talking about a 2litre motor, we are talking about a 408 with a t88 to t94 turbo with a 5" down pipe. What do you think?

Mine sounded like an NA motor with a nice catback until I ditched the cats. Then it got a little too loud so I put in a race muffler with a cutout. Sounds mean as hell.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Something that just crossed my mind was the fumes might start comming back in the interior of the car when I drive on the street. This would not be acceptable.

if you street drive it it will get a little anoying after a while, a turboed car with no exhuast is alot quieter then a NA car and no exhaust, but it is still somewhat loud, probably about the same DB level as a car with a loudmouth exhuast

I'm rethinking this as I was thinking about a system which had a 5" down pipe which exited the front fender but I think the exhaust fumes would be obnoxious int he interior when I roll the windows down.

Both my downpipes dump before the tires w/ no mufflers. The turbo does a good job of knocking down the exhaust note.

Just run stock or a cheap catback and put an electric cutout after the down pipe. That way it's quiet when you need it to be and will make max power when you open it up. That'll give you the best of both worlds.

Also, with the cut-out located at the dp, my car was loud enough to shake the hell out of anything in the cup holder and ashtray.

Later,
Dave

Do they make 5" cutouts.

To me it sounded a bit loud at first, but then again I have no tailpipe yet and it is on a short bed truck. I am planning on running a tailpipe and making a stainless shroud with some sound deadening material on top of it to reflect the noise to the ground. the turbo whistles quite a bit but is not really loud.

the biggest electric cutout they make is 4", but how much power you gonna be putting down to need a 5", a 4" should get you up past 1300rwhp

I was just going from the speed inc pics. They use a 5" down necked down into a 4" pipe that goes to the back of the car. So you think a 4" will suffice then I take it. I don't see me making more then 1300hp.
