Default Intake Blew Apart!

I have a pro-chrager on my z06 and last night I was running it and in 3rd gear I heard a pop, then my engine died, first guess I blew the motor after sitting on the highway waiting for a trailer, I started looking under the hood and there was no oil, anti-freeze or any sign of damage then I looked at the intake and all of the vacuum hoses are off and looking further saw the back of my intake was gone!

Does this happen on blown cars? I did hit the rev limiter spinning, I am only seeing 7-8 pounds.

I'm also in the process of building a 9.1 383 and turning the boost up to 14-15 pounds!

Should I buy the LSX or just replace the LS6 intake

That's a new one on me. I've been to 13 psi and never had an issue. I guess I'd get another LS6 and have another go at it.

Wow that sucks, I was planning to run the stock intake manifold long as possible but now I might buget in a sheetmetal manifold.

Was your manifold ported at all? People are running 3 times that amount of boost without problem... Sheetmetal manifolds are way too expensive IMHO. I know they are awesome, but I see that money being spent elsewhere. Especially when an LS6 should get the job done.

My LS6 intake saw 20psi at W2W and was fine...this is probably just a fluke.

I thinking the rev limiter cause this, I wonder if the TB closes on a vette when you hit the rev limiter

I'm guessing backfire from rev-limiter. Or a VERY lean condition. But probably a backfire.

Almost had to be a backfire to pop all the hoses off AND make the intake go poof. I've seen backfires on forced induction engines pop all sorts of vacuum hoses off that weren't secured with zip ties.

I imagine since GM kills the fuel on rev limiter, ya went lean & backfired into the intake.

Going lean sucks. Usually pretty expensive.

Might have broke your timing chain. That would explain a backfire through the intake. Time to pull the front cover and probably the heads. OOPS. If your lucky, you just bent some push rods and didn't hurt the pistons or valve seats. Valves are cheap.

No. But I have a double roller. Some call it over kill. I call it insurance.

is that where they got the term "blown" from?

im sorry though that it happened, i would either think a backfire like others said or weak walls in the manifold. were you spraying at all?
