Default Spool time on stock cube LS1

How long would it take a T70, T76, GT42, and a T88 to spool to, lets say, 12 psi on a stuck cube LS1? Im just trying to gauge what average spool time is for various turbos on the stock displacement. Turbo guys feel free to chime in your particular setups if its not exactly what I asked for, I just used those turbo sizes as examples.

Also, is it safe to assume that if it takes a particular engine to spool a given turbo to 12 psi by 4500 rpm, that it will take significantly less time to spool that same turbo to 6 psi? What is the correlation between boost pressure and spool time, if there is actually a dependent relationship?

I see this question asked sporadically and I just figured if we had some kind of discussion about it then it would clear up a lot of questions. I dunno... need more responses first.

A turbocharger's spool looks like an exponential function. Starts off slow and then begins to rise rapidly before hitting the upper limit, or max boost. The time it takes to rise from 20-30 pounds of boost is much less than it takes for it to rise from 10-20 pounds of boost, and so on.

Anyone running a large turbine side, such as a GT42 or a GT45 that can comment on the spool time? Or has anyone heard about the spool time on turbos as big as these?

Basically, the hot sides seem so large on these turbos. Is it due to the new design that they spool as quickly or faster than before?

I asked Jose the same Question on Thursday and he Said the GT-45 would be fully spooled (peak torque) by 4k rpm. the GT-42 would be closer to 3k

Dang, are you seroius?? With the GT-42s and 45s...do they come in different compressor sizes?? I'm still confused on how that works...I like the old 76mm, or 80mm, or 88mm way of talking about things...that makes sence. All I know is that the GT42 is BIG

The GT42 is classified in 2 different versions. The 94mm and 102mm. Those are exducer sizes, which most people don't know that. The 94 = 70mm, the 102= 74mm. The GT42 70 would spool quicker then a GT45 from Master power due to the exhaust wheel being smaller on the GT42. The GT45 uses an exhaust wheel that is almost as large as a T88. Spool up, or (peak torque) will depend alot on cubes, cam and compression. BTW, the GT42 is big physically as in casing size, but not wheel size. Thats just an inherent design size from being used on diesels.

Jose, is there a master list of garrett turbos somewhere that has the models and stats listed? Does garrett bother to put that on their site?

Quick example of the GT42 and GT45.

The S wheel from the GT42 on the left, S4 wheel from the GT45 on the right.

Jose,

So with my cam and ported 6.0L heads, the turbo should spool faster you're saying? Or slower?
