Default Home built turbo kit ???'s

Has anyone done an STS or similar kit by a home build? Doing it all yourself and buying an aftermarket t3 or t4 or something bigger? Any input? Ideas? Cost aspects? Previous project pictures maybe!~? Any input would help, I would like to start next month.

Thanks in advance guys!!!

A guy in the truck section named Flipper also did a twin rear mount. There was also a web site for a guy that did a rear mount with a junk yard turbo on a cavalier, it was kinda quick for the miles and cost.

I read your post about what you have INTO your car and that's way over what I'm willing to put into mine . Then again, I dont want to run over 800+rwhp . I'm looking for something more along the lines of 490-510 rwhp with some nasty torque... 600rwtq+.

Damn man... any numbers? I think I was reading up on your article and it said that you had some problems with the oil settling in the bottom of the turbo when you shut it off or something? Did you find a fix??? Was it just the valve or tha spring? You live in SD, I'm in OC... perhaps able to help me out and I can pay you some?

I made my own remote mount for a V6 Camaro/Firebird. I did not use the same quality parts that STS uses, but it still works great. I think that I put in it all together about
$2000.00 with the intercooler. I wasted alot of money and time on R&D before the kit, but you should be able to do it for less than $1500. It all depends on what components you decide to use. The cheaper the better (for me at least) so used parts can work well (rebuilt turbos, used intercoolers, BOV, Wastegates, ETC.). There is really nothing special about the piping in the kits. You can use the same piping that you find in a muffler shop. It was fun making mine. Good luck on yours.

I live in OC (Laguna area) and work in SD. No numbers yet. I need a tune, and a clutch. Where in OC are you?

I also bought a holset H2D but mine has a vband setup at the exhaust outlet. I am going to build a front mount setup and shoot for ~650 at the wheels. I already have a cam specced out for this combo. I like the idea of using exhaust piping for the intercooler. I am going to upgrade to larger injectors and fuel pump though in preperation for a larger turbo later on. I wonder why your H2D has the bolted flange at the exhaust?

Do you mean a conventional setup or a rear mount with an FMIC? I'm not sure what application my H2D was used on to have the tapped flange. I'd rather have the v-band than the bolt exhaust flange that mine has.

No problem making 650 whp with that H2D.

I'm in Mission Viejo and I work in Irvine. My car is up at superior getting tuned by Shawn Ellis right now, trying to get some of the minor qwerks out of it and adding a couple more deg. of timing. I'm goin up to bakersfield this weekend for a T&T run, so if you know anyone who wants to run up with us, lemme know!!!

I mean the conventional setup. What is an FMIC? I would like to keep the turbo as close to the hot exhaust as possible...Have you done jy turbo setups before? I love the concept. What do you think I can make with this turbo/max HP? How much boost do you think I can make? BTW I just sighned up on junkyardturbos as Fatts...Hope to see the site really develope!!
