Default OBX FMIC guys please come in.....

I was wondering if the OBX that is 24x12x4 would fit in a 96 WS6 car. I know most everyone is running the 24x12x3 version, just wondered if anyone had considered the 1" deeper unit or if it would even work ?

Don't see why not, i've got the new 4 inch thick OBX

and as you can see in the pic, if mounting to the bumper support it will protrude about one extra inch( ) past it. On my LS1 car it sat about 12-14 inches away from the plate opening when I had the 3inch core in there. LT1's have longer noses than the LS1's so I really couldn't see why you'd run into problems mounting it in the bumper support or even in front of it.

Thanks for the quick response. I was not aware that the LT1 had more room in the nose. What do you think the 4" version is good for on HP? Do you have any other pics of your setup. Where did you purchase your 4" version from and how much $. The one I'm looking at is 24x12x4 (overall 31x12x4 ) What does your intercooler measure. Thanks

It measures 31x12x4 same measurements as the 3 inch thick version it's replacing other than being one inch thicker. Don't know if it will handle anymore hp than the 3 incher, but hey I got it at a good price The 3 incher has been to 700+rwhp here on tech FWIW.
There are a ton of pics of my OBX install here on tech. Search my screen name and FMIC e.g. frcefed98 FMIC and the pics will pop up
The bumper cover for the LT1's is ~2.5 inches longer, but slopes down more...so take this with a bit of caution. I'm going to do an LT1 in a month or two(my brothers) so i'll have some info then. As long as you have more than 12inches of space between the lower part and upper part of the bumper cover at the bumper support you will be fine i'd think.
I'll pm you the address of where I got mine from.
I'll have more pics of the turbo install, FMIC mounting and IC pipe routing coming this week.

I'm curious to see the pipe routing for your FMIC.

Did you cut out your front liscense plate area frcefed? MD requires you to run a front plate, and I'd prefer to keep the sleeper look anyways wouldn't mind taking out the foglaps though and shrouding it somehow. I know this question has been asked before along with what kind of results it gets, but I couldn't remember.

Here ya go.....

That will let ya know what it will look like..... so just take the cover off and leave the plate there instead of cutting it out like this.

But with the front plate cover in there...you still see some decent ITATs? Looks like as long as the air flowing in there doesn't vorxet around and hit itself before going through the fins...you should still be able to get some decent cooling effect.

Cut out the plate area, run the plate on hinges or small wire key chain rings and when you are under acceleration, the plate will go up out of the way and let the air in Ghetto I know but we don't have those gay front plate laws here......yet. But its really easy to work around. Cut the plate opening out EXCEPT where the plate mounts to. Leave those tabs there, so you can bolt the plate back up...it will still flow enough air to keep you cool when street cruising and when you are at the track WHERE THE AIRFLOW IS REALLY NEEDED take the plate off and bam you have complete flow

Really no way around it. Maybe cut out about 4inches wide x 40 inches long from under the front of the bumper cover's chin area(laying on the ground under the bumper cover) And make a small 1 inch wide air deflector to mount to that opening so it will direct air to the core. The air deflector just has to be like the stock air dam but more towards the front.....
Don't make fun of my ideas....just trying to get the creative juices flowing out of you guys.

That's what i was thinking about doing FrcFed..."shrouding" it or "channeling" the air up there. I'd just not prefer to have to cut that area. I know there were a few people I thougth that said they weren't running their liscence plate area cut like that.
