How many miles...
so I'm in the hunt for basically a "platform". I'm not too concerned with mileage as I figure I'll rebuild/replace the suspension components, the 10 bolt, wheels, tires, ect when needed to get what I'm after (turns left and right, goes straight and goes fast
). So basically what it boils down to is finding the right color with a 6spd @ the right price. Input please.EDIT: Oh, and the other thing I'm getting at is would you go after a higher mileage car knowing that you'll eventually pull the motor, rebuild or replace (thus saving money now for more fun stuff later), or a lower mileage car and make the project go more slowly? Thanks!
put the turbo on 57K miles, forged my engine at 63k, currently have about 70k. i think i work on it more then i drive it.
I cant drive it in the winter around here, and in the summer i put alot of miles on my bike (50mpg and runs 10.90's
), and of coarse i have been working on this and that on my car since 04 so its been down alot.
) Smokinhawk, I was thinking of the other guy with the twin build up like harlan, not you btw.
I'd also be more concerned with maintenance schedules if the previous own used the car as a DD. Looks like I'll be makin some phone calls this week/weekend. Oh so tempting!! I'll keep ya posted!

) suspension (LCA, panhard bar, sway bars both front and rear, strut tower brace, sub frames, TQ arm bushing), breaks, rear, clutch. Then I'd put it to boost maybe next winter/spring/summer.
After that then stepup and build a motor and get more serious, if that's where I decide to go. Like I said, this would be a nice weather car that sees weekend / track time, and maybe a drive to work on a Friday or two, but never the rain or salt! Thanks for the input guys!

I don't know if this is the same hood as the firehawk, but it's like a cross between a WS6 hood and a firehawk hood. Besides, I really don't want to pay the premium for a firehawk and I really wouldn't need the WS6, since the suspension is going to be rebuilt/replaced. BTW, this is the one I'm thinking of.

That looks like a raptor hood which is very similar to the Hawk hood. As for paying for the Hawk package, that's up to you. If you look hard enough you can find a deal, even on a Hawk.

i sould have looked harder for a black one but i realy wanted a 6speed.

Blue. Not much on black... Suncoast's is also similar (though I can't remember how much they are and I crossed that one the other day). Besides, it comes down to the same conversation you and I had Mike, if I do decide to hack the car later (years down the road) I wouldn't want that to come back and haunt me as far as a hawk.
to get a black, non T-toped firebird it would be about 8K
so i cant think of any good way for a win win situation

unless you want a car with a built motor and 12bolt.
The motor still looks strong, and compression is good on all cylinders, except #8 with the bad spring..

unfortunately the previous owner had no idea what he was doing and destroyed the deck. Instead of forging the stock block i had to trash it. If i knew what i was going to do i would have bought a 98 M6(atleast my gauges would be accurate) and just would have sold the motor + PCM as a whole (i only got $150 for my block). Also a 98's tank is metal so it's easy to sump. A PCM from a 2001 or 2002 usually costs about $150 and i would rather run an iron block since i plan to do some big power (goal is to hit a max of 1000 rwhp with a modified CAS kit). I know you've been interested in a turbo kit. My best advice is to build your car to work with what you plan to do and start from one end of the car and work to the other. I am doing my forged iron block now with worked 6.0 heads(well HPE is), K-member, modified CAS TT setup, g-force 6 speed tranny, spec 4f or aussie clutch, fuel system (sumped tank, weldon pump, injectors, boost referenced FPR, high pressure line), and hptuners 3 bar MAP tuning. Lastly, i will do suspension and rear end work (9") since i want to get the car on the road again (it's been down since august). I hope everything goes as smoothly as i am thinking it will.Good luck!
