Default Help!! Car Wont Idle

this is the only place i know where to put this bc it involves a turbo set up. i just changed the wires and now the car wont idle right. the vac. on the boost gauge starts at 20, where it should, then slowly drops down to like 10-15. this results in choppy idle and car dying. i also moved the coolant temp sensor from the front of the drivers head to the rear on the pass. if that means anything. i know that one time i forgot to plug it in and it did the same thing except it wouldnt start hardly at all. let me know if you guys have any ideas or suggestions. thanks in advance

It could matter. If the engine can't determine the proper engine coolant temp on start-up it will have troubled delivering the appropriate fuel. I'd just switch it back. Also, it could be that those custom wires are faulty, ie. poor connections at the terminals that are crimped on, etc.

if you have auto-tap look at the ECT (water temp) if it looks normal and tracks as the car is warmed up, then thats not the problem. Other wise make sure you are getting a good connection on the plug wires.

The new wires from Thunder wouldn't work?

Did you get it fixed?

Did you custom wire the coolant temp sensor? Might not be working right.

It may matter where the sensor is placed.

THey can go bad if the prongs on the side break.

new thought. could the reason i am having problems is the fact that i lost some coolant when i moved the sensor. and now there isnt a sufficient amount in that head to allow the sensor to read right? i have not put any more coolant into it, just didnt think i lost that much but im not sure. any thoughts to this. i was eating and this popped in my head just figured i would throw it out on the table. let me know what you guys think

Take off the radiator cap
Start the car
Let it hit operating temp (thermostat will open)
Then keep filling it up until the level holds at the radiator and the air bubbles have stopped for the most part.

That'll make sure you have the proper amount of coolant.

here is the finding:

if your coolant is too low your car wont idle. also if you move that sensor i guess you have to reset your computor to allow the car to pick it up correctly. at least that is waht i found out. put new coolant in and it still had a hard idling then unhooked the battery for a bit then allowed time for things to get settled in and it starts just fine. and ildes as well. drove it up the road to my place and it never missed a beat. later on

Awesome, glad it worked out man!

It's amazing what resetting the PCM will do

Did it help/cure the misfire scenario?
