its air to air.. the air going through it when you are driving is what cools it.. maybe you want an air to water unit if you are trying to improve inlet air temps?

10 1/8 mile passes out of 2 coolers of ice isn't bad at all. You make the pass, all the water flowing through the cooler gets really hot from pulling the heat out of the air, it gets pumped back into the tank and melts all the ice that was sitting there because you go and shut the car off. That's an air/water cooler for you.

only have it running when you are under boost, insulate the reservoir..

i thought originally you were talking about sitting a bag of ice on an air/air between rounds.

normally i just put fresh water in mine and dump the warm watter out if i'm going to go round and round at high boost.. i guess if you are pressing the tune up and you need below ambient inlet temps then you could also resize your intercooler or re-think another part of the combo if you dont want to shell out the $ for ice.

Dry ice works very well.. My situation is different then yours being that I have a truck, but I have a 8 gallon resivoir in the bed of my truck that has ice pockets on both sides.. The dry ice will actually freeze my water wetter / water mixture if I dont keep my pump running.. It works very very well and fortunately my pump can run over 8 hours without killing my battery when it is not running.. I am sure something similar at a smaller scale would work for you...

Flipper, can you explain your setup to me a little bit better? The second section of aluminum, is that where water goes? And then the dry ice sits in the square area on either side, or how does that work? Looks pretty badass, however it works

Tank on the far right is methanol for meth injection and for the wet side of my nitrous system. Next empty section is for ice. Next tank is my intercooler fluid, then another section for ice. So far I have found that dry ice in one section is more than enough.. I am actually thinking of making the the section between the Methanol tank and Intercooler fluid tank a fuel tank of C16 and using this electronic switchover valve:

SF-206 Designed for EFI engines with fuel return needs.
Super Fuel Valve 6 Port (fuel selector)
Electric switch over valve with high capacity flow, (250 gph) and a 400 lb maximum operating pressure. Brass-ball valve construction and a thru-hole for unrestricted flow. Auto switch-over switch built-in, for fuel tank sending unit. Mechanical override makes it easy to switch over in case of electrical failure.

The three bottles are Nitrous, Nitrogen push, Nitrous.

It doesn't need to be on this grand of a scale.. If you have a 2 gallon resivoir have a small ice pocket.. It doesnt take alot of dry ice to drop the water temp to below freezing.. Just make sure the water keeps moving..

Leave it loose and dry! Water will make it evaporate sooner.. You can put it in anything that can take the low temp.. I buy mine at Praxair (Welding supply) I buy two squares approx 12"x12"x3"..

FWIW

We use ~6 8lb bags per pass, cooling the intercoolers and trans.

It's just easier to hit the local gas station on track day and clean them out

2 body sized coolers hold about 25 bags each.
