Question STS concern...

The STS system looks like it's an awesome system, but I've a concern about running it in the rain. Has anyone experienced any problems running it in heavy rain? With the air filter so low to the ground, I would suspect there would be a problem with rain. Also, wouldn't the rain cracking the turbo housing from thermal effects be an issue?

Might sound like nit picky things to address, but I'd appreciate any help someone can give me on the subject.

I have wondered the same thing about the STS. Maybe contact sales@ststurbo.com for the best answer? Would be nice to know!

I have had my system installed for 3 months and have never had any issues with driving in the rain, and I have drove thru a number of storms. They include a sock for the air filter like they use in baja racing but i have never put it on. Loving the system.

With the STS, water has no effect on the turbo.
As far as the rain and air intake, if you use the "sock" that the kit comes with you should have no issues. We installed Hemi-etr's kit and it was raining like hell right after and he didnt even have the sock on.
Glad you are loving it Tom.

Pretty much every FI system has the air filter mounted pretty low (not Vortech)... so just don't drive in deep water.

Hey Billy I don't think my kit came with the "sock" where did they pack it?

The SOCK will save your life. Where it when you plan on getting your unit wet. That's all I have to say on that subject.

Well I have the STS on a lowered truck. I have the filter sock on there, and I have problems sucking up water in heavy rain. About 3 times now I've had to pull the IC out and drain some water out of there.... this is only in Really heavy rain, even without boosting.

My truck is alot lower than most, so that might be the main reason... In heavy rain, I try not to even drive the truck sometimes.

The drycharger sock is usually just thrown in the box. It will be from either K&N or Outerwears Racing. If its not there call your selling dealer right away and they can get STS to send you one out. You will need it when it rains.
Did the rest of the install go okay?

I noticed you have an OBX intercooler. You might want to check the intercooler and make sure there are no holes in it or bad welds. I have heard off some of the OBX intercoolers having holes in them brand new and also heard the sealer they put in them will eventually let go. I would pressure test your intercooler and make sure, if your having that much trouble with water getting in it. Just a suggestion.

I sucked water in when it was raining very hard. I was on the freeway for about a half an hour before I noticed it. I run a DIY rear mount without a sock. I've got seven months to get a sock before it starts raining here in SoCal again.

Yeah the rest of the install wasn't that bad... I'm just waiting on my friggin stock I-pipe I bought off another member... he's being slow. That's all I need is my pipe, and I can finish the install. I'm glad my car isn't my daily driver. I'm just finishing up the wiring, and running the lines for my boost gauge, and A/F ratio... thanks Billy

Got no problems with the STS on my lowered SUV.

I'm out in Vancouver BC too, one of the rainiest cities in the world.
