What type cats are you using? Metal sub (new high flowstyle) or ceramic substrate (old style high flow).

so that mega squirt seems like a good deal for us, will it control low impedance injectors as well as high??

For 300 bucks you can get a fully assembled unit with wiring harness. Why is this just now something that we are all seeing, is it something that is easy to program with?

Also it mentioned one that will control timining, so will that work on our cars? or do we need to do the old style like fast, have ls1 edit control timining, and then this control fuel?
this is the same price as the 2bar upgrade for HPT

It will drive low imp. injectors. It only has 2 driver circuits though so you will effectively have a bank to bank solution. There are numerous solutions for spark control, it seems like the cheapest and easiest is the Ford EDIS swap, you can get the parts you need from pretty much any 4.6 liter powered ford in the junkyard. Unfortunately it does not work with the LS1 Coil setup. The developers of the product have recently released an upgraded processor module for these that snaps in to existing machines. It includes finer resolution for timing and fuel tables, a more powerful processor for future additions to the code. They are also working on some advanced features that will allow you to daisy chain several of these devices together for extended functionality. Go to http://www.megasquirt.info and read, read, read. Pretty much any thing you can think to ask about has been asked already and answered. They have some great support forums with a lot of knowledgable people willing to help out as well.

problem is with mega is you have to figure it out your self like how it will work with your system.
Lucklly for us, parish and desielgeek have been working on it so they can give us the baselines.
it would be as easy as getting bs3, accel, or fast system.

Its just a motorola processor taking in 00010001011100 and putting out 0110010010010...it can't be that hard to use. Plus there 100 different things available for free to help with tuning.

Brian will figure it out and let us know.

I've been playing with the software and looking at the options. In short, it is a VERY COOL option for us. I'll have a much more "complete" breakdown of its capabilities and usability, but from what I've seen thus far it will do everything the more common "big boy" ECMs do and more. Not to mention, its open source so those of you with programming skills can add/change features at will. The project is under continual advancement as well, they're adding and upgrading all the time. I'm pretty excited about getting it and installing it. I'm sure I'll be leaning on parish and dieselgeek a touch when I first get it, since they obviously have made great use of one already

do you plan on having it control spark as well?

Im just wondering how good the for coils are? I wonder if they will support as much power as the GM ones. I thinking about getting the whole thing with the ford coils and making it work on this, others have.

ditch the stock stuff.

For the initial setup, we are more or less duplicating the work Parish and Dieselgeek worked out on Jim's truck. It works, and we're somewhat on a time crunch here. If the MS is as cool as it looks, I'll probably buy another one for my LS1 powered Mustang, and go about setting it up and hacking the code to run the LS1 coils

man IF we could get the stock coils to work that woul be ideal, but i dont mind switching over to mustang coils if I have to. Just dont want to have to get a fast system, this MS stuff is looking better an detter, how long has it been out? Ive not herd of it till now, it seems that it is pretty well thought out though

Im assuming they meant 200HP to spin while making 1500HP or so right? It shouldnt take 200HP to spin if the engine is making 1100HP(around 930-950rwhp).

Parastetic loss from a blower also takes away from flywheel horsepower. Say the blower will flow enough air to make 1400-1500HP. You will only see 1200-1300 FWHP horsepower on an engine dyno due to the parastetic loss. Then 900-1000RWHP on a chassis dyno due to drivetrain loss.

A top fuel drag car losses 900HP from 7500HP at the engine. That is around 12% from 7500HP!!!! Most of the guys running LS1's are not making more than 1000rwhp with a blower setup. Lets say 1000rwhp = 1150HP. Now if a top fuel car lost 12% at 7500HP level with a huge blower we can safely say a small blower will lose between 5-8% max on our LS1's unless u are running something like a F3.

Depending on transmission, suspension, etc... there can be many different powertrain loses. The average M6 tranny on an LS1 will lose 15-18% and auto will lose 20-22%
In my case with the th400 its about 25%. There can be many factors as to loss of power from the motor to the rear wheels
