I'd close up the gap to .030 first and see if that helps, sounds like an ignition problem to me. One of the truck coils (there are 2-3 styles) are hotter than the stock car coils.
I run truck coils and MSD truck wires and have zero ignition problems.

I will do both...regap the the plugs and go buy some stock GM truck wires...I need the longer ones with my coil packs relocated. Thanks guys!

I wouldn't call the earlier blocks a lot weaker. The main difference between the blocks is the way the windows are cut into the case at the bottom of the cylinders. It allows each cylinder to breath better, which is more efficient, which makes for more power.
