Question Turbo running with out being complete???

The question I have is does it hurt the turbo to be connected up to the hot completely, and not the cold side. Will this hurt anything? I have to get my truck back on the road and time is of the essences. Cold side I can get done while driving it day to day.

No it won't hurt, but definitely not recommended. Nice setup by the way...

i would make sure an air filter is on the inlet so your blades dont get beat up durin the commute.

also make sure your oiling to and from the turbo is complete

You could definatly overspeed the turbo.

If I had the choice, I would recomend just blocking off the cold side from exhausting any air.

Make sense?

Leave the airfilter on the front of the turbo, and block off the exit of the turbo that would go towards the intercooler, or intake.

I wouldnt cover the compressor outlet either.

That would be like sticking a broom handle in the spokes of a bicycle.

It doesn't matter where the air would go. With little to no restriction on the turbo blades it doesn't take much exhaust gas to overspeed the turbo big time. I actually tore up a PT67 because I drove my car to work sans charge piping, it oversped the turbo, ruined the bearings, and the turbo had some vicious shaft play.

At the point of no return. Build a turbo kit for my 2500 HD 02 truck. In the process of finishing the hot part tonight I hope. I will post up some pics as soon as I get some I like.

Well, what car are we talking about? With a T'netics 105 it's doubtful that you could overspin it at sane street RPM levels, but why chance a 2500 dollar turbo to some cheap piping?

I was asking for my truck turbo Chevy 2500HD 6.0L engine. The car will see very little street driving on the wet rainy days.

I say just throw a screen or filter on it so nothing gets in there or messes it up. get mesh from home depot if you have to.

The air would go nowhere. What you are causing is a restriction, in turn slowing the turbine down. There would be some "barking" of the turbo, but some bark would be way better than severe overspeed.

I would atleast made a huge restriction in the exhaust side of the intake to slow the turbine down.

I have a '98.4 Dodge 2500 Diesel, and a '98.5 Dodge 3500 Diesel. Both twin turbo'd, both over 500RWHP.
Although I'm not too familiar with gas motors yet, I am extremely familiar with forced induction.

What did you end up doing?

Merrick

P.S. I'll get some pics later today.

Here is my '98.4 12v.
It's turned up just a little bit.
I should have it on our dyno in 2-3 weeks.

sweet...stacked turbo's. What kind of boost are you pushing? 60psi+? What else is done to the 12valve. I'd really like to do something similar.
