The loads that are experienced are at BDC of the combustion stroke are compressive (pushing) loads. You can put a heck of a lot more compressive loads on those rods than tensile loads. Anything forged is going to be fine... but getting the weight of the con rod down.... now that's just all around better.

I think it really depends on how fast you want to wind this thing up... basically, what kind of red line are you shooting for?
Yep, and I think he said in another post no more than about 7k for right now as it'll be a hydro roller.

Well I probably need to make a final decision on the turbo then finalize my rpm. I will call John today to discuss if he offers the PTE 88 anymore. If i run the 76GTS I don't think this motor is going to need more then 6000-6300rpm. Does anybody have a map for the 76GTS? I've seen the T76 map but I'm not sure this is the same turbo I'll be running.

FastKat, did you send that spread sheet yet? Thanks.

Nick

Yep, would like to stay below 7000rpm. I will be buying new lifters anyway so I may decide to go solid for more rpm. The only thing then is my springs become more pricey. Decisions decisions. At this point though I'm pretty set on under 7000.

Good deal. One other thing I thought of as a testament to stronger con rods = higher RPM's... ever see NASCAR Nextel Cup con rods? When you're running 8000-9000 rpm's generating 800+? HP for 500 miles at WOT throttle... you need some BIG *** connecting rods.. and that's' what they use. They're HUGE!! I guess they need the additional material (and density) for strength.

I'm sending the sheet now... take a look at the forumlas and you'll see what to change and what not to change for your engine.
