I would be weary of pulling the t-stat...you need some kind of a restriction so that the water stays in the radiator long enough to get cool. You'd be better off drilling the t-stat out and keeping some type of restriction then pulling it out all together.

Granted, a pure race application, but no race car runs a t-stat. As long as the system is properly designed, it'll be fine.

John, are you having any problems with doing that and are you on a stock rad.? Those who have removed the t-stat, are you on an aftermarket radiator or a stocker?

Yes, the air has to go through the condensor before it goes to the radiator... afterall, they're only inches apart! With the A/C on, the condensor heats up and as a result heats all of the air before it gets to the radiator. I guess it's kind of like turning the ambient air temp up 20-30 degrees or so?

Why? Is it the heat from the AC heat exchanger that warms up the radiator?
I can't imagine that the extra stress of the compressor is robbing so much energy and the engine warms up!

I think that he is talking about a street car...not a race car. I have seen cars have overheating problems because they did not have any restriction to flow in the cooling system.

The system was properly designed from the factory with a t-stat, not without one.

I think I implied that when I said "granted in a race car." My point being that with the proper radiator, fan, ect setup, it'll probably work just fine. BTW, I did also mention the use of an UDP to slow the water pump down to where it would work .

I guess I didn't see the relevance of the race car comment to the topic since we weren't talking about a race application. Kind of like me saying that some race cars don't run charging systems...although it is true it's not really what we were talking about

I think that pulling the t-stat is a band-aid solution to the problem that will ultimately hurt the reliability of the car. The t-stat is there to help the car get to operating temperature when cold...you lose this when you gut it. If there is a weak link in the cooling system then find the weak link and address the problem there. Just my .02 though
