Default What is your coolant temp?

Can you guys giv me some idea what coolant temp you are running at? Especially looking for feedback on blown combo's.

I'm running at about 200 - 205 on the freeway and 210 - 215 in traffic. Is that unusually high? I have the fans on a manual switch and they both come on high. I also have a 180 degree thermostat.

I have twin flexalite pusher fans on my car with the thermostat remover and i VEVER see above 180. Even when i beat it in the heat. It is about 95* during the day here. When winter comes ill drop the stock thermostat back in. I figure all teh xtra water it moves with out having the thermostat in makes a big defference. GL

Same here! And I also wanted to post the same question.
All you guys running 180F: is the car speed enough to reach this low temperature or are your fans constantly on?
I have an adjustable thermostate and no matter how I set it, the lowest temperature I see is not less than 200F in summer (85 - 90F days).
This keeping the fans off.
I can go lower than that but then I have to turn on the fans.
My goal is to have a system that doesn't need the fans on the highway (70 - 80 mph)
I also have a tranny cooler in front of the stock cooler, is that "robbing" some air flow?

thanks - Stefano

i am turbo but mine runs about 195-200 on the highway and gets to 225 in stop/go traffic....these temps are in 90 degree weather. I do have a lower temp stat but it has always run these temps so i havent tried to change it.

Cablebandit, the car at the end of the video is the same as that one on the track?
Doesn't look very healty

Does the coolant temperature affect the performance of your engine? I guess you have a couple more HP than me so according to the general theory about temperature you should notice less power with such an "hot" engine.
I personally do belive it's all BS (low temp stats) but I don't want to wake up an already chewed discussion.
I'm just trying to find out how to set the fans to don't have them run all the time.

I have a truck with dual electric fans running on the factory ecu. It runs about 200-220 on the freeway at 80mph. It stays 190-210 at city speeds unless i'm beating on it, then it will see 23X for short periods.

yes same car...that is what it looked like before i started the rebuild. I am not done yet but prolly finish in the winter after racing season! I dont worry about the temps...i think they are fine. At the track it doesnt get over 205 cause you are not stop/go. IMHO you are fine at your temps. I think i have my fans set to come on around 180...i just let em run

160 Thermo

90 deg weather
180-190ish on the freeway
200-210 in stop and go.

I had to install additional cooling fans to get it to do this though. With just the single Black Magic fan the temperatures would rise well above 230 in stop and go traffic.

160 t-stat, fans on low at 175, on high at 180

With the a/c on the car will over heat 230+ if I sit in traffic for about 10 mins. Driving down the highway i see around 210.

Without the a/c on it will run around 200 during the day and 210 in traffic.

Our high temp for today..... drum roll please... 115 degrees

Why do you even bother to run a t-stat out in vegas anyways? (Or is there something I haven't yet learned about t-stat's and LSx motors )

I wonder if pulling it would help me out. I know people with other kinds of cars that pull their t-stat and seem to run cooler. Wonder if it would help me for summer.

Not like you're gonna freeze it up, and it would mean that the extra water flow through the block would keep the temps down. Only link in the system that becomes suspect is then the radiator (I'm guessing it'll still flow good enough to cool, on the water side that is). Hell, if you do that, might be able to go to an UDP, slow the water pump down yet still have the same temps you have now and free up a few HP. Just a thought though .

Like i said in my post towards teh top i have my T-stat out of the car. It definatly stays alot cooler. I never see over 180 no matter how hard i push it. i have my fans set to be on most of the time also. I think that changin the t-stat aint that important adn prolly doesnt gain you any hp BUT for you guys that are runnin 210+ most of the tiem i woudl say to either take the t-stat out or get a 160 or somethign cuase that is WAY to warm. Over heating in our cars is liek 260 right? Id hate to be runnin 230 when beating it. GL

I think mine generally runs too high. Keep in mind, I live in miami florida and at 1pm its like 100 degrees and humid as fell. I typically run at 210 and on the bumper to bumper I at times get stuck in probably 220 - 230 (with the ac turned off).

I have have the s/c'd car for only 3 weeks, not sure how its supposed top run but I am assume thats too hot. I will speak to the engine builder this week and see what I can do to cool her off. And that heat could totally explain why my car mis fires between 4-5 ,000 rpms some times.

Im throwing her up on the dyno in a week or so.

i'm supercharged with an ati p1-sc and see 176 while cruising and up to 190 or 200 if its really hot when in traffic. But when i turn on my A/C it really heats up alot, i've see 220-230 in heavy traffic. i also have a 160 degree thermo.

I was surprised to see the same high temp wit the AC on.
Why? Is it the heat from the AC heat exchanger that warms up the radiator?
I can't imagine that the extra stress of the compressor is robbing so much energy and the engine warms up!

SOM_of_a_Beach: how hot is your charge air? Maybe this is causing the misfire and not the coolant (strange anyway).
I went from 180F to 80F IAT injecting 5GPH water/ethanol. KR disappeared and gained at least 30RWHP (dyno).
Maybe something to consider because the hot Florida air won't cool the intercooler that much...
