Default forged 346 or 408 for boost?

I could not find the informaiton i was looking for through a search. I love to drive my car to the track and I also want to run 12+ lbs of boost. I want to know if it is worth it to go with a 408 (iron probaly) or just a stock ci motor with a D1. I want to run at least high tens, I believe that I have the correct suspension to hook the car as well. Heads will be 5.7 or 6.0 style, havent decided. Cam is supposed to one like Trevor @ TSP has in his vette. So what do I go with 346 or 408.

I have a strange feeling that I will want to push it when I get used to the setup. I would go up a bit more on the boost or spray on top. I just want something that I could "grow into" if need be.

The main thing I am worried about is the weight of the iron block. I want to be able to 60' as hard as possible. I guess the 346 is the way to go.

If I was doing it over I would do a 402 LS2. You get big cubes, more strength than an LS1, the weight savings of aluminum and no sleeve issues to deal with.

What about a LS7 (big bore) with a really short stroke (stock)...... that would be nice....

I'd keep the stroke down for a boost motor so you can get a decent piston in there.

If I did a new motor it would be an LS2 with a stock crank, maybe a little more stroke, but not 4.000.

But if you did a big inch stroker and small boost (10psi), you could probably go mid 10's on pump gas. But that stroker might not work as well if you were going for bottom nine's and spinning the motor to 7200.

I was thinking that too. Bigger cubes = more power on pump gas as you don't need as much boost to make it. To each their own of course. Word of advice, set your ultimate goal, build a plan behind it, take aim at that, work from there. If you drive the car mostly on the street with occational passes, you might be better off with more cubes and less boost (easier with pump gas). Personally, nothing wrong with going with a somewhat compromise and keep cost down now while watching the aftermarket game with blocks, including the LS7. Get yourself a cheap-street forged 370 (middle of the road) wear that out and then go from there. If you run the car hard often, you'll be rebuilding more frequently anyways.

The question is-
How fast do you really want to go?
And
How much $$ do you have?

They go hand in hand
