what i need Im new here and im wanting to build a 408 turbo ls1 iron block for my 96 firebird. I was told to come here ,cause you guys know what your talking about. Im looking to do this my self i am a heavy truck mechanic so i have mechanical skills. I have built my own GN so i konw about turbos but never ahd a v8 it always been a buick v6.
the times i want to run is low 9's mabe hi 8's. so far what i have is a 6.0 short block and im working on my turbo headers stainless. 6.0 heads ported stock crank and im gonna get some good rods and pistons.
What turbo should i run single that is? i was looking at the PT88. this is gonna be mainly "99%" track car i will only bring it out on the street so somebody can challenge me to a race seeing there is a lot of race cars out here. Any infomation will help thanks.

Your plan sounds good IMO, but I am NO expert. Call up Wheel 2 Wheel Powertrain in MI and get the skinny on setting up that motor and turbo setup. They have 1) built the motor for a low 7-sec Aussie LS1, 2) built the motor (402cid) for a low 8-sec Ohio LS1 (88/98 turbo), and 3) gone low 7's with twin 80mm turbo's on 352cid. They rock.
I would go 408, 6.0 heads, 8.0-9.0:1 comp., hyd roller, backwards ls6 intake, big a/w cooler in the cabin, big frame 88, backwards 6.0 manifolds, big stuff 3, and a T400/9". Search in this forum for some pics of the "Ohio Boys'" car, Stenod's car and look at W2W's website www.w2wpowertrain.com
