Just want to know what converters you guys are using when running a turbo. I do not have a turbo yet but preparing for it and trying to get some of the smaller stuff done like new converter/gears,suspension.. Anyway i wanted to do the converter soon(I have a 3,000 2.0str) and wondering what i should change it to if anything.

stick with what you have untill you try the new set-up and see where the power comes on.

Is that 3000 stall in the car now? If so leave it... If not it might be okay.

I would not rush into doing a converter that is rated for 3500 or higher stall unless you are mostly going to race, and have talked to the manufacturer to discuss how that it will actually stall with the added power of a turbo. Don't forget to install at least a 19,000 GVW rated trans cooler to extend the life of your transmission.

FYI, I had a 3500 2.0STR TCS in my bird last season...with my turbo set up it didnt stall until damn near 6000. It's all Tq/Hp related...the more power you have the higher a given converter may stall. Stick with what you have, I'd bet at the 550-650 HP level it may work fine.

If you can ever get a Neil Chance...DO IT>

yea i know a converters stall has to do with how much hp you have and the more you add the higher the stall will be... Was just trying to get an idea of what everyone runs. Im not looking to make more than 500rwhp so i figured a converter with a little more stall might be ok...
and who is this neil chance dude

Neil Chance converters cost around $800-1300, depending on whether you get a one-piece or two-piece one.

If you have a 3000 stall in the car now, I'd leave it alone and see what happens.

$1400 for a good weld-together (1-piece).

$2000 for a good bolt-together (2-piece).

$3000 for an ultra-light mack daddy bolt-together.

I got mine for $1425 shipped (pro mod weld together it was called).

Should I be concerned with my vig 3600 multi-disc? You guys have me worried. I am looking for ~10lbs w/ turbo.

krazy, thats the converter i was thinking of and i keep seeing posts that the vig 3,600 is pushing it for a turbo, this is why i made this thread, to see what others are running which none of them said what they have as a stall and only comment on what i have which is ok

Does Vig make the multidisc in a 3200? If so that is the one I would run.

You're not going to be pushing a lot of power with 10 psi so i would most converters would hold the power with maybe 200 rpm slip at most.

thats what im thinking, i only want to make 500rwhp tops and nothing more which is another reason i thought a higer stall converter than what i have now would work fine and i had to ask..

I bought the Vig 3600 multi disc because my TCI 3500 couldnt hold up to 4lbs of procharger.

The vig held the 4lbs like a champ. 11.96 @ 116 leaving off idle on street tires.

that converter must have been defective. my tci 3800 can hold 9 lbs easy. Don't know about the extra boost I'm gonna have now....

im wondering if you tell the converter company before you buy it that you plan on running x amount of boost and making x amount of hp that they could build it to stall @ what ever stall speed you want. I know fuddle builds their stall for 400hp so if you make 400 hp it would stall at that speed but if you make more hp than it would stall higher. So what if a converter co made a converter to stall @ 3,800rpm with 500rwhp under boost is that possiable.
