Default Need help from people w/2 step

I have the Harlan 2 step, and I'm having a weird problem. The 2 step activates, and hits 4k rpm, as it is set. But I'm only building 1-2 psi. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm not able to build at least 5 psi?? And, can someone explain to me how a 2 step even allows the turbo to build boost to begin with? Thanks!

pull out a bunch of timing in the cell you are inon the 2 step and watch it rise.

Do you know why that would work? I just don't understand why this thing helps build boost. If I understand it better, I might be able to figure out future problems. Thanks!

I dont build a ton of boost off the 2 step either. its not gonna give you max boost, but with it spooled up on the 2 step, it flashes to max boost "right now". have your tried launching off the 2 step, its probably ok like that. I know I have traction problems on et streets and the 2 step above 4500 at a "prepped" track.

maybe harlan will chime in here, but if you can get a pound or 2 out of it, you should be good. I haven't tried the trick of pulling timing out like stated above.

I believe that works because with so little timing in that cell, when on the 2 step; it LOADS the motor up something terrible. BUT thats good when trying to make boost. No timing, and cylinders missfiring when on the limiter makes it work. Make sure you have NO CATS tho, hehe.

i'll try it today....2 step to 3000 rpms (in automatic) and then kill the timing and give you the difference in the boost. Easy to do with hptuners...just kill timing using "vcm controls"

Yeah, I already pulled the cats. But what I don't understand is, if I pull timing in that one cell, wouldn't that give me very low timing every time I pass that rpm? I'm still learning HPT so this may be a stupid question. I did launch the car off the 2 step, and the car bogged down to 3k rpm, and I lost the little boost that I had. Now the car is running rich right now (around 10.5:1), so that might have something to do with the bogging too. Even bogging, I pulled a couple of 1.8x 60' times, so I'd like to get that a little better.

If it bogs, raise the 2 step RPM

You should be WOT when you're on the stutter. You might not see full boost, but you've got the turbine shaft up to speed. So once you do fully load the motor, the boost rise time is significantly reduced.

Pulling timing will add more heat to the exhaust at that point. Basically setting the fuel off in the pipes versus the motor. Turbo's like heat
