I was driving down the freeway in my car (2000 TA 8-rib Procharger 10lbs, Heads cam ect.) and I noticed the car was getting really hot, then the accessories started to die so I pulled off the freeway into a parking lot and poped my hood to find that the accessories weren't spinning, and the crank pulley was sitting in there crooked. After getting it towed home I put it up on the lift and found that the crank snout broke clean off.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

MAn that sux. At first I thought this would be the first thread of a crank literally breaking, from too much power. But the snout doesn count for that. Was the crankway keyed or no?

It was not keyed, it was a stock crank. I knew it was bound to happen. I am going to have Speed Inc. build me a forged short block with a keyed crank.

That sucks bad. I worked on a Honda Civic one time and with the motor running the crank pulley was sitting still. The inside of the balancer was just worn out bad.
I dont see why the snout would break on an LS1 crank unless the pulley got worn out and/or the snout got worn down and started letting the pulley wobble to the point where it broke.

I've heard of the crank bolt working itself loose and then the crank pulley comes off, but not the crank snout breaking off on an LS1. Its not like he was pushing 20psi. He is pushing 10psi. I used to push 12psi without my crank being pinned or keyed. I did key it when I built up the new engine.
Pics?? What happened to this guy?
