My friend says that STS's sound like utter crap on the SS.... he also says its not as effecient and that the location of the turbo would make me a nice target for theft...

Here in Miami, theft is pretty bad and I hate the idea of waking up to see my rear turbo gone ><

So im starting to lean more towards another kit.... maybe a S/C'er

Feel free to make recommendations... and give reasons

why is everyone worried about theft more than normally with the sts kit? you would have to jack up the rear to remove the turbo. This would take longer than taking off with all 4 wheels and tires. It would also take less time to break the front window, pop the hood, and un-wrench a super charger than it would to remove a rear mount turbo. Both of these should set off a decent alarm.

I had JL Turbo in Lauderdale install my STS kit and dyno tune. I'm only running 5 psi for now. Besides the higher rpm whine from the rear it drives like stock at normal rpm. My gas mileage hasn't changed either.

My turbo car is my daily driver when it runs However, it is always good to have more than one car just in case. Any time you modify a car, you risk something going wrong. The more mods you throw at it, the more likely something will break.

you would think that right? Yeah well over here you have to make sure you watch your car like a hawk, specially in Odessa, were when night falls, they come and yank your whole entire motor out and haul *** with it, so when you come to turn your car on you have "starting problems" and really alarms dont do that much once they become the norm, everyone starts to ignore them

Don't just let the wind blow you from one direction to another.
Find someone with a daily driver (low to mid boost) supercharger, and do the same for a turbo setup. After a experiencing these in person, you should be able to decide with certainty which one is best for you.

I'm biased my vote goes for TURBO!! But again make your own choices by checking them both out in person.

Id say weather its a front or rear mount go with a turbo for a great dd.
a supercharger is also good but you would need full length headers and a full exaust system to get the full potental, and they do have their belt problems too.I drive mine all year [even in snow] its my only car, it drives stock and gets good gas mileage till I spool it up.I think its a great Idea to search out a procharge camaro and a turbo one and get a ride in both and ask many questions to make your mind up.

My car has been great, a STS kit, dual stage boost controller for 5 PSI/8 PSI with Methanol. The car is tuned for 5 PSI so my gas mileage stays great but when I want to go really fast i flip a switch and run 8 PSI with methanol. At 5 PSI I get 416 rwhp and at 8 PSI I get 480 rwhp.

I'm still trying to decide (before i do any more mods to the car) weather i want to pursue Boost, All Motor, or Nitrous for my daily driver. Nitrous im probably going to pass on just because everyone runs around on spray and i want to be differnt. So whats more DD friendly? Boost or Built All motor? Again... im aiming for about 450-475whp....
Thats what superchargers and turbos do quite well since the basic motor is still stock. The normal driving attributes of the car change very little, but the extreme attributes (pedal to the metal) change drastically. Its there when you want it but transparent when you don't. My daily is a Vortech and it is great. Goes in for its first dyno tune today so I hope when I am done this evening I end up with 450 to the wheels.

this is the only thing tht i dont understand, how come you really cant do that much to the motor like a big cam, the turbo dont like that much cam? or is it that i misread somewere that the stock cams are more prefered than the big ones?

A turbo is forcing air and fuel from the injectors into the cylinder. A large cam has overlap between the intake valves and exhaust valves. If both valves are open at the same time, you are forcing air into the sylinder and back out of the cylinder. You want the most air and fuel inside the cylinder for the most power. The valve overlap kills that. You end up with much less air and fuel in the cylinder. Stock cams have very little to no overlap and therefore are better suited for forced induction. Lumpy cams are great on a N/A car but not turbo.

Hopefully that made sense.

i dont have boost, yet, running more boost will cause more pressure build up on your car therefore more broken parts. You really have to find a comfortable spot and adjust your drive attributes accordingly.

Now, im planing on 15psi when in dialed in....uh yes...DD!! He thing is, with that much pwer to the wheels, you have to run clean and not go crazy. MAybe 8 psi for street purposes....maybe not!!

you heard the best advice though....find a person willing to give you a ride a see what you like. I really like the PRocharger kit becuase it is a clean installation, and its air to air which i would prefer over the water to air in the vortech. IF i would go PRocharger, i would either elect their d1-sc r even a f-1r....

Now, a turbo would have me remove my headers and that a manifold done...which is fine but i do like my headers and hate to spend moneyt on something that i would have to let go. Hi flow turbos, they are a sponsor here, is maned by a good set of gearheads.....8 sec white supra ring a bell? They have a kit coming for the camaro which is front mounted. As for the rear mounted kits, i like the noise they make but i have someissues on their efficiency and sleeper affect. Not saying that they dont produce power, but i feel that the yonly way your really gonna step up to a front mounte turbo is if you boost more psi, there is just to much piping, and you need to push more to get the same gains....thats imo of course and im not hating on teh rear kits....they are nice and fast!!!!

i like this miami modding....im local also...we should meet, not to many people out here wiht nice rides except if you like turbo neons or slow, fart rockets!! oh yeah, and mustangs!!!

I live in the Miami area too and am also going to boost my car real soon. I'm leaning towards the STS kit with 7-8psi with the meth setup.
