I've got about 20K in parts in the car. Other than tuning I have 0 labor cost. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't!!! My car would have stopped at exhaust and a nice stereo.

Most guys in here have $5K alone in the rear end/transmission/convertor/clutch that are running 10's or faster.

Aftermarket EMS and tuning.... add an easy $3-4K.

After that it is a thousand here.... a few thousand there.... couple grand for heads.... much more for a built shortblock....

Then don't forget about things that go boom... trannies, turbos/superchargers etc.

I want to do a budget T76... but after adding up the costs.... I'll stick to spray for the few times I really need it. Still playing the lottery every day and wishing.

Need to buy a house first!

I kind of did a budget before I started as well...
So far I am over twice that original budget.

I am not even 1/2 the car some of these guys are building. My goal was just a reliable daily driver that puts down over 500hp. I have gotten there and there are still a ton of things left to do.
This **** will suck the money from your wallet in no time.
My advice to you:
If you can't afford to have any "extra expenses" on top of your figured budget, DON'T DO IT!

Mine wouldn't have, I have had second thoughts about the car while I was building it, driving slow cars for a year, almost forgot what "fast" felt like. Then we got my car running and it was pretty slow because of wheelspin and I still had doubt until we got it hooked up in 3'rd gear (3 speed trans), then it was all worth it.

I have ~24K in this whole car, including the car itself so thats not too bad. Ater selling the stock interior, trans/converter, catback, rear, wheels/tires and every other part I didnt use, about 3K worth, car already had a fairly fresh forged piston shortblock in it. Plus lot of the stuff I bought used and if you are careful you can get some good deals.

Only thing I didnt do on the car myself was weld the LCA brackets on the rear so you save a lot of cash doing it yourself and divert that money into nicer parts. I couldnt afford to pay someone to build a car the way I would want it

Well i was an idiot i had enough cash at the time to buy a nice used vette straight up or put a 24k deposit on a ZO6. Here is where i am at

Complete
99 Z28 M6- $12000 (paid it off the first day)
Vortech SC kit + Miscelaneous things- $7500
Sold vortech for 4200 shipped lost about $1600 (it was still brand new)
CAS TT- $4200
Charge piping + fab work - $1600
turbo upgrade- $750
forged long block with cam, lifters, and rockers- $7400
Megasquirt system + sensors - $480
LC-1 + gauge - $299

puts me at $30k invested so far including car

Pending:

T-56 viper upgrade - $2300
injectors - $600-$700
fuel pumps - $250
fuel line - $200
FPR - $130
Fuel rails - $200
textralia clutch - $950
tuning - ????

$34700 is what the total will before i am able to get the car running (not including tuning)

Everything under the complete section has been paid for(except for the fab work i just got the final bill for that today) and everything under the pending is absolutely needed but hasn't been purchased yet. I still have abour 4k left on the loan and have a bunch of things to sell so i will be able to afford to buy everything i need i just need to make sure i don't break it right away. Also, i still am planning to use money out of my checks as necessary to purchase items. I was too undecided from the get go and that was the problem. I didn't know what i wanted until it was too late so i took some nasty hits especially on the car (the guy messed up the crank and the block) so i couldn't just forge the stock block i had to buy a whole new motor. I hope it all works out in the end.

Luckily i only have 1 huge bill left and that's the tranny. I haven't even added a 12 bolt or 9" rear end yet as it isn't necessary to get the car running. Once i get the car on the road that's probably the first thing i need to buy.

If i had to do it all over again i would have read more first before spending and listening to friends. I would honestly rather have a vette and do a nice little cam on that and call it a day. In the end it'd still be a vette regardless how slow it is.

Greg

I lost count... but most of the labor I did, so... eh? Probably not too bad. Got a great deal on a turbo kit, with all the supporting mods including the car I'd guess 30-35tops including my ironblock I bought used.

I have a 97 SS I bought a ATI Procharger D1 with twin high flow intercoolers (FOR SALE $3500 obo) and i put it on a stock motor. Needless to say I should of got the bigger pulley cause the 12lb just blew the engine to high hell. I am recently in the process of getting a new engine in until i found out it was gonna cost me around $25,000 **** THAT so im going back to naturally asperated. 500hp 1/4 of the cost.
