Default building my own turbo kit...

well to start off, i bought NineBalls old NBM 1LE car to build. i have already bought Wolf mini tubs and offset LCA's, a 6.0l block, 6.0l crank, LQ9 heads, and a narrowed Billingsley fab nine with gun drilled 40 splines-anti roll bar-5/8 race studs-the works. much more to come.

I bought a new Miller Econo Tig today. i am a good mig/tig/stick welder. i do a fair amount of welding on Stainless, mild steel and aluminum everday at work. the plan is to build a super stout single turbo car. 370ci based with the LQ9 heads and a fast 90/90, turbo 400, the fab 9 and all the suspension goodies. i want to build the turbo system myself over the next few months. i am gonna use 2003 6.0l manifolds flipped of course and a 76mm turbo T4 flange .96ar... or maybe a T88, lag is like traction control

questions:

1) What size tubing do i need to use for the hot side up to the turbo from the mainfolds? i was thinking 2.5 inch 16ga.

2) What size tubing do i need to use for the down pipe, 3 or 4 inch?

3) Where is the best place to buy the tubing and manderal bends from?

4) Where would i get the steel flanges to mate up to the 6.0l manifolds?

i am sure some of these question have been answered before. i have been using the search and have found many of my answers in there, and learned alot. these are the 4 i have left.

thanks for any and all helpful info...

Why did you buy an Econotig? Cancel your order. I thought aluminum took a lot of skill, and was something that I would be good at someday. Then I tried an inverter, and as soon as I could get rid of the Econotig, bought an A/C-D/C inverter. (Yeah, expensive). Now welding aluminum is as easy as steel or stainless.

Mikegyver: i like the Ecnotig for the $1200 i paid for the complete pakage. i dont like spending the extra money on the A/C-D/C inverter. i also use an Econotig at work so it is what i am used too. i have never had a problem welding stainless or aluminum with it yet.

ttt... for the questions... just looking for some info from the guys who have done there own kits before.

I definitly respect the DIY aspect of a project like this. It looks like I will be starting a project similar to yours in the near future.

chassis/suspension/safety is done. 408ci being built by LME right now. AFR 225 heads showed up today on my doorstep.

Still needed: turbo system (6.0L manifold setup), fuel system, custom radiator, engine management system. I don't think I'll have it done until December, have too many things (like a wedding) going on in the next 2 months.

2.5 inch 14ga. 304 stainless, with a flex joint..

2) What size tubing do i need to use for the down pipe, 3 or 4 inch?
3.5 inches carbon steel, coated..

3) Where is the best place to buy the tubing and manderal bends from?
Bought from several different shops, most shops are the close to the same cost on the straights but bends are different everwhere..

4) Where would i get the steel flanges to mate up to the 6.0l manifolds?
Had them water cutted at a local shop.

Nine Ball: i know how the wedding deal is. i get married on the 24th of this month, just bought a house, insurance, bills, bills, and more bills. its all pushing the deadline i set farther and farther away. its all cool though. the trucking comapany that ran over me and my 01 Z28 back in March is wanting to settel out of court so is should roll out with alot of extra $$$$.

NXRICKY: thanks...

Smokin Hawk: i was told 3 or 4 U-bends would do, but i like to have extra just in case. extras are not hard to sell too.
