Default Superchargers: Exotic or Practical?

I thought I'd quote a neat book for the newly christened "Under Pressure" section:

No single performance modification to an internal combustion engine is more practical or effective than the addition of a supercharger.

This is why I feel that a supercharger or a turbocharger is a natural, neglected component of an engine... the missing link to performance Nirvana (I kill myself with these poetic musings. )

SC'ing and TC'ing (besides upgrading to better components) are simply the next step in taking a performance engine to it's ideal.

I thought Turbos were more efficent because they use some of the rejected engine heat to help generate the boost.
