Easy mod to do if you have not already done so is to ditch the stock airbox and run a cone filter in the fenderwell with a hose from it to the blower inlet like so.

http://www.monkeybean.net/Firebird/images/undercar1.JPG

The other mod that will really help get you there is headers and a good cat back.

Of course you need the suspension and tires to hook but you should be able to meet your goals.

Do you have any current times or dyno's from your setup? What other mods have you done? Powerdynes programming or other? Stock fuel system etc....

There aren't too many other fellow PD'rs so tell us all about your setup.

thanks Blackbird, you awnserd a post for me a couple of weeks ago about this.Since then i have routed a K/N into fender area and noticed a big improvement, you were right. The car makes more boost down low, couldnt tell on top yet,got to 4000rpm in 3rd than ran out of space.Going to MMS this weekend for dyno session and tune.So far i have jba headers ,stock cats 2.5" y pipe,3.5" mufflex/spintec cat back.Im going to the track on new years and will try et streets.last month i went 12.59 spinning Gforces through 1st and part of 2nd.Maby morgans tune + et streets will help.

You'll probably give up about 500 RPMs crusing in Drive, if you are a A4, by moving from 3.23's to 3.73. Not much loss of economy.

I jumped frpm 2.73s to 3.73s and went from 28MPG to 23MPG.

23MPG is nearly twice the gas mileage my hopped-up '74 Nova got.

Hey how are you doing
congrats on the Powerdyne setup. Does MMS do custom computer tuning on the dyno? If so I would recommend getting a set of 36# injectors and ditching the FMU. Have Mike tune you car on the dyno with the 36#'ers and you should pick up quite a bit. Also nothing beats a good MAC header with offroad

Best of luck,
Chris

I agree with Chris.

And though I am using the y-pipe and cats, I can testify the MAC Headers do a good job of letting the exhaust gases out.

thanks guys,if i ditch the fmu whould i also get rid of the extra inline fuel pump? MMS says they do computer programing but i dont know if they do it while you wait or you have to come back when the progam is finished.

I dunno about ditching the fmu without a rising rate regulator or boost a pump or something like that. I am helping a fellow pd'r and his A/F is super rich like 10:1 or more but if we take the FMU out of the picture it starts pinging immediately. I know for me at least without the fmu even with the inline my FP drops to about 50. So unless you have something like a boost a pump or rising rate regulator I dunno if the fuel system will keep up.

Definintely interested in hearing how it goes if you try though. I do agree with Chris though. The FMU is a bandaid and if you can get it dialed in without it your better off.

Get an inline pump if you're ditching the FMU. You don't want to run out of fuel and it's a better set-up.

Also do you have a torque converter? The stock converter does not hold enough rpms on the upshift and you drop out of your boost range. A 3000 - 3600 stall would do wonders for you, especially if you have good tires. A Yank ST 3500 would work great with your boost level.

With my 4000 stall, I was holding 5500 rpm on the upshifts when I had my Powerdyne. The ST 3500 would hold about 5000 rpm on the upshift. That would keep you at full boil all the way down the track.

Much more gain from the converter than gears.

I do have a inline pump that came with the powerdyne kit,it has a return line from the fuel rail back to the tank.Ive got a precision 2800 that flashes to 3000 and in drive shifts at 5800 or i mannualy shift at 5900rpm.The fmu turns the pump on when at sences boost,so i only get extra fuel at boost. With no fmu and larger injectors wouldnt i have to much fuel at low boost levels?

You would need a programming update for the larger injectors.

If your car is not pulling hard in 2nd and you have a converter, somethings up.
