Atap hardware/software requirements?
I was wondering if someone could give me a "quick" overveiw on the equipment/electronics needed to utilize Autotap. Is the program super complicated? Can a semi-computer literate person be able to use/understand it with the provided instructions? What are the minimum computer/laptop requierements? Sorry if this is one of those typically asked "new" guy questions but I`m new to the FI/computer controlled game. (Coming from a 3rd gen. carbed ZZ4 car.) Thanks.
P.S. THIMC, awsome site! Nice job!

Re: Atap hardware/software requirements?
The dos version will run on a 486 with 8mb ram, it probably would run a 386. I have been using it for two years. However, the windows version takes a lot more, I would say at least a pentium mimimum.
The windows version will not run on that low of memory, heck windows wont run on that amount of memory. I upped the memory to 28 mb of ram but probably will be hard to run the windows version. I am not sure if the dos version is really being supported anymore.

Re: Atap hardware/software requirements?
www.autotap.com. I think the GM version is still right around $300. If you want the version that works with all obd-II cars (GM, dodge, japanese cars, etc) is something like $500.
Starr performance will soon release there software. It looks like it can log at a higher frame rate than autotap. But is still pretty new so can say much about it. www.starrperformance.com.au
Do a search there are several other programs that will log.
Autotap is easy to use anybody could figure it out how to use it. It would be a good idea to have a complete set of service manuals for the car. Otherwise you wont be able to figure out what correct range will be on the parameters like o2 volts, ltrim, etc. With out the service manauls most of parameters will just be numbers to you. Also the forums are good place to ask questions on all the parameters.
