Harlan. leaded gas question
Do you take your O2 sensors out every so often and clean them? How do you get around them getting clogged up?
Do you stay at WOT the whole time your in the car since the computer doesn't look at them at WOT?
Fill us in please.
Thanks
Johnnie

yes, that's it i modulate speed w/ the brakes
I basically deal w/ dieing O2's
I've been running the same O2's for 25k miles with leaded gas in the tank for about 20k of that. I will occasionally run a tank of unleaded if i'm on a trip. But i'll turn down the boost
I notice an added 3% to 5% in my l-trims when on the leaded fuel. The sensors don't clog per say, but more slow down. And the lean to rich transition is the one that seems to slow down more. So it takes the PCM a little more fuel to get the O2 to switch, so the l-trims go up a few percent.
I would occasionally get 1133 and 1153 codes, slow swithcing on both sensors. It happens more often now, as the senors are pretty well shot. They still work, just set the light. I just clear it w/ the scanmaster when it happens. Seems to happen more often when i'm cruising in a higher gear. The EGT's are lower, and that seems to set the light quicker. They respond noticably faster when the EGT's are up, like higher RPM in a lower gear, or under boost.
I get the SES quite often now, but i don't really care
It will kill your sensors, don't get me wrong. They will take awhile to get really bad. some lead will slow them down, but you can run unleaded for a while to clean them off. But after a while that just won't work anymore. A tank w/ some xylene works pretty good too
