More turbo questions
1. A boost "spike" is when the boost builds rapidly and the wastegate does not open fast enough. It can be VERY bad for an engine. But if set up properly they should not be a problem.
2. Torco - they make and sell fuel additives and have a really good race fuel concentrate.
3. Aftermarket turbo kits can be adjusted to provide a lot more boost than you can use on a stock engine (LS1)
4. Besides drivetrain, you will need at least an upgraded fuel system (injectors and pump), and tuning is the most important part.
5. Too much? I can't really say. It all depends on how long you expect it to last.(with proper tuning, and fuel)
Hope that helped,
Jeff
What do you guys mean by a spike? Are they bad? IE hurt the motor.
What is torco?
The turbo technologies kit I am looking at is 4 1/5 psi. Is the kit is adjustable to higher psi?
What is needed besides injectors and tunning to run safely at 8-9 psi if it is adjustable to that much?
What psi is too much for a stock LS1?
Sorry for the questions but I am sure I will have more.
Thanks
Jason
I think you can adjust it up past 4.5psi, only safe to do so if you tuned your engine for that much boost. Also need to up fuel and drive train componets. Remember Rearend and torque conv or clutch, things you'll need. ANd alot of $$$$ doesnt hurt.
The most ive known any one to turn the boost up on an ls1 is 15psi (Rob Raymer) but he has a built moter. I think Y2kHawk (Harlem) has the most boost for a stock ls1 (like around 12#)
