Default Two WG springs which to use??

Quick question

My Tial wastegate came with a ~11psi spring. I just bought an ~5psi WG spring for it.

I have a dual stage turbosmart boost controller.

Now for the question. I want to run about 15-18psi at the track. With the 5psi WG spring being so light will I have to worry about boost creep trying to push 15+psi? Or is it nothing to worry about with the boost controller taking care of things?

I know with the 11psi spring I can't WG it down any further than that, but with the 5psi spring I can go up with the boost controller.

I was told to buy the 5psi spring and run that until I get my tune finalized so I don't toast the car with 11psi and a bad tune.....5psi being a lil more forgiving....sounded like some good advice

Damn these springs are expensive too, 30 bucks for a spring

Anyone? Will the 5psi spring be too light to push big boost through a boost controller? Will I see boost creep with the 5lb spring?

I dunno, I just run the 11# spring and have since I put the turbo on the car. I don't even have a boost controller.

Thats what I was doing, but the guy helping me out on my tune said it'd be best to run a lower pressure spring and with my boost controller(which is still off the car) just turn it back up to where I want it. I'm just a lil scared that this light 5 psi spring will be prone to creep at higher boost levels. I can smush it in my hand pretty easily, the 11psi spring on the other hand is a friggen beast that almost took my head off when I pulled it out of the waste gate.

the boost controller should be able to hold the WG shut.

I used to run a 3 lb spring in a deltagate on a tti street kit. My cheap old hks boost controller held 13 psi (highest I ever got it) no problem. The great thing was I could just turn the ebc off and it would never go above 3psi. Worked nice for me when I was driving the car all the time, and didn't have to worry about killing myself everytime I got on the gas.

I'd run the smaller spring and let the ebc do what it's suppose to do, hold boost. JMO.

Dave

Yeah I'm liking the fact that I can put around on real low boost if I wanted too, still good enough to smoke 99.9% of whats out there anyway, if I need more I can just flip the kill switch
Thanks Dave

boost creep is a problem at low boost levels, not high. It creeps because even with the gate open, it can't bypass enough. A function of gate size and flow, not spring.

FWIW, i ran .2 BAR(~3psi) springs in my gates on the old twin setup. Used the boost controller to set t-brake/launch pressures and down track pressures, anywhere from 9psi to 30psi. All on 3 psi srpings.

Thanks Harlan, can't argue with that, looks like I had my worries backward.....tends to be that way being so new to turbochargers and all their components.
