Default 12 Rib Pulley Question: Procharger

Hi, I'm new at the F/I business, so bear with me here...

I bought a used Procharger kit from a friend, it's the P600b kit with the single intercooler. He told me he bought a new belt and pulley and that it was set up to run 8-9psi.

I want to run 12-14psi so I started looking into what I would need to replace to do that. *And no it will not be on a stock motor

What I found is that there is already a 12 rib pulley and a 12 rib belt on what I bought. Isn't that the setup for 12-14psi? That's what it looks like according to Prochargers' part list. If not, what is it?

Thanks.

im not sure if the p600b can support that much boost.

most popular choices with procharger are either d1sc or f series such as f1 or f2.

It can. They just don't usually sell it set up to run 12 - 14 psi because you shouldn't do that with a stock motor.

Popular choices are completely irrelevant to me since I already bought my P600b because I can't afford a brand new kit. If I had money like that I would go turbo anyway.

Doesn't anyone know anything about 12 rib belts?

Yeah....they're expensive. Went through 3 in two months @ $90 a pop. Make sure your pulleys are aligned.

I think 12 rib is standard for LT1. Thats what came on my p-1SC

I have a p-600b and the belt size 8 or 12 doesnt tell you how much boost it is set up to make. You need to know the size of the pulley on the head unit itself. I was running 8psi and then bought the 14psi pulley direct from procharger. I would not run that much on a stock motor though. If you measure the diameter of the pulley, call procharger and find out what it should be rated at.

Pulley sizing for a set amount of boost can be a hit and miss prospect. Lets say you have a bone stock engine with an ATI ProCharger and the blower is producing 8 psi of boost. You then decide to add headers and a cat back exhaust system to it. Because the exhaust system is now more efficient, the boost is lowered to approx 6.5 psi. Now you have to go to a smaller blower pulley to regain the lost boost. Lets say you now want to swap to ported heads and a different camshaft, you now notice a decrease in boost again, and again have to go a smaller pulley. This all works to a point to where the supercharger in question cannot spin quick enough for the desired boost level without creating too much heat, and all of these blowers have an efficient rpm range.
Many people purchase the P-1SC, then expand past what the P-1SC can handle. Once you add heads and a camshaft, you won't be able to see a lot of boost with the P-1SC. Many people who end up adding a forged bottom end and wanting to see 12 to 14 psi have to end up going with the D-1SC, or it's big brother the F1.

Here is a link to the ATI Spec's page. http://www.procharger.com/models.shtml

I would not recommend the P-1SC for what you are wanting to do, and it can support 825hp, according to ATI's charts. The P600B can only support 775hp, so don't expect to see a whole lot of boost out of it. Bob

Thanks bob. I guess I'll just have to call Procharger to see whats really on it now and what I need to change.

Once again though, I bought the P600b for a steal, nearly 1/3 of the price of a D-1SC. Which is a kit I would have considered, if I wasn't broke.

I'm only trying to get ~500 hp and 11's out of the car. Because its my daily driver and I often make a 200 mile trip from school to home. So I think I can squeeze it out of the P600b.
