Do you have to tear the engine apart to do this or could you just drop the engine and do it from the crank?

Someone recently claimed to have done it in the car with a Dremel. If you try that, be really careful, go really slow and tape over everything to keep the dust out of the engine. There is also a dowel kit that allows you to drill dowel holes at the intersection of the crank snout and the pully with the pully installed. Don't remember where that came from though.

let's keep this going. I would love to put on pulleys, but with all the recent scares, want a keyway too, and sure *** hell don't want to pull the motor.
BTW does anyone here run the ATI dampner?!?! It's super bad-*** and I doubt anyone would have any problems with it, but it's so much $$ comparatively speaking.

I agree lets keep this going.. We need to research as much as possible to get our FI setups to work right.. I do not want any problems this time around.. I am not taking any shortcuts..

I sent my crank out to a machine shop while I had the engine out.
I read on this board that some one was making a kit to do it on the car.

I was not brave enough to try it with a dremmell.

You can use the jig kit on the C5, but requires the rack & pinion being dropped to get to the pulley. Consider it the same labor as a pulley swap with 30mins to drill the crank.

Finding a good damper keyway machine shop is a trick. ATI Performance is best, NOT A.T.I.

The ATI kit is $120. It includes a sleeve that goes over the snout of the crank and locks down, then you use their drill bit through the supplied bushing, then you ream the hole and install the supplied dowel. The dampener with the Vortech has a 3/16" groove cut in it which fits the dowel perfectly. They also give you an extra dowel if you want to install two. TByrne said they used just one on their Camaro which convinced me that just one was enough.
