I'm pretty sure the LS1 Headbolt process requires more turns past hitting 65# and 22#..
There is another TQ sequence that should follow.
Isn't it, 22ft/lbs, then 90*, then 90*, then 50* ??
My mech wanted to do that, then measure what the true effective ft/lbs was on a cracked block. He says hitting the 22ft/lbs with the loctite or whatever sealant of the bolts is hard and after that reference is missed, the rest is BS.
Whether the above comes out near 65 ft/lbs or 100 ft/lbs, I dunno. I 'thought' my mech felt the above sequence landed it near 100 ft/lbs. As long as you don't strip the head of the bolt off or strip the bolt or the block thread, the more TQ the better, right?
Maybe someone should go practice with new bolts on a POS cracked block to see what the max TQ these bolts will take is.

Withya, but I don't believe 65 ft/lbs is the GM spec for the M11's. I'm not sure what my mech uses. Might be 65 also. But by the book it's that weird voodoo 22 ft/lbs, 90*, 90*, 50*.
So I guess the Q is what final TQ spec is that? Will try to remem to ask what my mech uses.. 65? 85, 100?

im gonna check out the tuning js, but it is very common to lift a head on a fi car. i am not ruling out that it wasnt detonating. i am hoping to order all my parts this up coming week. i will dyno tune it 1st thing. to make sure its all good. then its back to the track

well i made a deal with he devil and got up some cash so im gonna get rocking on my car, as soon as Joe Prince gets back to me, i will be ordering my pistons and rings, and i spoke wiht arp and the head bolts will be available within the next 2 weeks. i am going to use the same head gaskets as last time. i will also be installing a 12 bolt rear end. then the car will be dyno tuned to make sure all is good. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Surely serious/prolonged detonation will cause exceptionally high cylinder pressure spikes, after all we're talking about an uncontrolled explosion not a steady burning of fuel. Perhaps the detonation lifted the heads beyond the tty of the bolts. IMHO thats the real cause. Mike.
