I think if your going to open up the engine to put in forged pistions I would also put in forged rods, just to eliminate another weak point on the bottom end.
I think the stock rods are good for 500RWHP, so it's all in how much HP you plan on making.

I think the stock rods are good for more than 500rwhp.. I would say 600rwhp.

Not that I'm FI or anything but...

I think that it has to do more with the cylinder pressure than the HP. In other words, you might could get away with 600 RWHP so long as the power wasn't made at too low of an RPM or maybe only 500 RWHP would bend a rod if that power were made at a low enough RPM.

Just food for thought....

How strong are the stock LS1 rods? I can get a set of forged pistons reconditioned rods bearings rings for my turbo build up with about 15 lbs of boost. Will this be reliable setup?

Colonel that does make sense.. What low rpm are you talking about? Turbos make power sooner than SC.. If your theory holds up then SC would work better with stock rods..

The reasons for this are:

1) FI cars don't tend to spin the motor more than ~6k.

2) On TDC of the exhaust event, the intake is opening (overlap) and the intake pressure partially loads the piston. This acts kinder to the rod/bolts compared to N/A, because in an N/A application the piston is completely unloaded, and the change in direction at the top tries to pull everything completely apart.

Jest mi dumm thinks...

OK, for the recommendation of getting forged rods, who makes a stock replacement set that will handle the extra power for a reasonable price? I say that because Crower has a set of billet steel rods that sell for $1480 thru Summit Racing. Manley makes a set but I can't get a price. What about the crank? Will it hold?

If your going to be changing out rods and pistons, I would go all the way and just get the lunati 382 stroker setup. Just make sure you get a set of pistons desighned for boost.
