Default MAF vs. SD tuning

What type of setup are you running on you FI cars? From what I've read, the stock MAF isn't going to be able to handle more than 500ish rwhp, what kind of upgrades are needed? Also, what would be better for a primarily street driven car? The pros and cons of each?

than I have nothing to worry about. Do you think descreening it would be a good or bad idea?

2bar speed density tune here. efilive makes it real easy to setup VE so you can command the AFR you want at any point. using a 2bar sensor with their custom OS increases boost resolution. only way to go in my book. chunk the MAF. lol

taking the screen out doesnt change much over 500rwhp, I am still on a decreened stock MAF with a 98 PCM. But after 4400rpm the MAF is maxed out anyhow on mine and its all in the PE table. Big weather changes slow me down (too rich when its hot) but we are talking a couple tenths/mph and it takes 30 seconds to fix it at the track..

Only problem I have found in leaving the MAF and using PE is big weather or altitude changes. Once everything is dialed in with LTFTs during idle and part throttle/cruise its all handled by the MAF so it will compensate for weather/altitude changes just like stock. But WOT over 4500rpm is through the PE though, if I leave the 65 degree 9.70 tune in the car and run it on a 100 degree day I'll lose 2-3 tenths because the car is rich. On the street thats nothing with a 600+rwhp car, but if I'm at the track I can log a pass with the wideband and adjust the fuel pressure or PE table to lean it out and pick it back up some.

Only downside is if you tune the car lean when its hot it will go way too lean when it cools off or you drop in altitude a bunch because it needs more fuel to make more horsepower and nothing will compensate since the MAF is way maxed out. Works for me anyhow

With a 99+ car I would no doubt use one of the 2-3bar tuning solutions out there, having a 98 I'm kinda stuck though

I would rather tune SD with any kind of boost. Its really nice to have timing and the right afr at low boost and high boost. I do not want a afr of 11.5:1 at 1psi in PE I would like it around 12.8:1 then going to 11.5:1 into the high boost. Makes for better part throttle power, drivability and MPG. Same goes with timing and boost, not so much of a problem with the timing going off the maf but the older stuff, like the L31, L35 trucks going off just MAP.
