I am not an expert on this topic BUT have heard that the gas is formulated different because of the affects of needing to burn properly at those MUCH higher altitudes.

So I've always been told NOT to run it, maybe someone else can add in some more logic to back that up though...

100LL is a common airport gas, 100 octane, low lead.

I filled up a friends plane with this at sebring, (2 stroke, rotax powered) and did not like running leaded gas <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> )

Ryan.

Talked to my friend, here's his reply:

"Yes. A guy I worked at the airport with used to put it in his Mustang every once
in awhile. We all used to back our cars up to the fence at night and fill up on
free gas. Prop planes have 4 cycle engines just like cars.

Aviation fuel is definately formulated for planes and not cars. While auto engines will run on it you will probably see a loss in power as opposed to running ultra 94. In higher HP applications running AV gas is detrimental to driveability and engine longevity.
